Change in Rhino Eco-Coat Roof Warranty

Dear Excel Family Members,

We have had a few application issues with the Rhino Eco-Coat roof system. Most of the issues have been internal and have been contributed to our “learning curve”. However, we are finding that working through these issues we are basically on our own. Rhino is showing little support.

Therefore, effective immediately, we will be reducing the warranty for Rhino Roof application from “LIFETIME” to a 5 year warranty. We strongly believe the Rhino Eco-Coat roof is everything they claim, with the exception of their claim of reducing interior temperatures... But since all warranty appears as if it will be absorbed entirely by Peterson Industries, AND we can't predict the future... we aren’t going to hang ourselves out there for the life of the coach.

It appears as if it is too late to get the “Lifetime” warranty claim out of the new 2014 brochure since it is at the printers now, so we'll just have to work through that.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but we feel it is important to keep you informed so you can make good decisions when considering new units. We feel this forum is one of the best ways to get information out quickly.

Respectfully,
Bryan Tillett
President

Are you finding any reduction of the interior temperatures? That was a big selling point for me.

No. Rhino has claimed in writing that their Eco-Coat roof reduces interior temps up to 20*. We found the opposite to be true. The Rhino actually increased interior temps slightly over our Gel-coat fiberglass roof, and even the EPDM. So we took that claim out of our marketing.... That is why we recommend adding a 2nd air conditioner. (Which most people do anyway).

A 15M BTU Air Conditioner is designed to cool 300 sq ft of living space. Even our 28' has more living space than that (310sft). But with the way we insulate our coaches, most people get by very comfortably with a single A/C unit in 28', 31' and even 34' models. We only install 2nd a/c on about 1/2 of our 34' models which are around 360 sq ft.

But with the Rhino, we feel that the trade-off for being a maintenance free roof and never having to climb up on your roof is that you'll see some heat gain over our conventional roofs. The 2nd a/c solves that problem since with 2 a/c's you'll have over 600 sq ft of cooling capacity. Our biggest models are only slightly over 400 sq ft. so plenty of margin!

It's interesting that on their website they still have video's saying that it is a cooler material? But, like everything else if you can't get support from the people that make the product you purchase items from....why bother with it. Maybe, it would be more beneficial for your cold climate customer's like me where we would like the added heat on those colder days.

There is a product that was made for RVs that has been out a long time now. Maybe check into that? RVRoof.com They say it was developed for rvs and they have lots of them out there.

I have heard good things about them from people on other forums. Just a thought.
