Anyone use electrical plug cheater box? The one that you plug in a 20 amp and 30 amp plug and it gives you 50 amp service.
Do the campgrounds get upset when you use them if they don't have 50 amp service?

I have had one for several years and it works good and no one has ever complained about my using it. However, take along a long drop cord as my experience is that you plug into 30A at your post, but you must get 20A off of a different circut, normally not on the same post as your 30A. When doing so you may realize line loss on the longer drop so I feed mine into a Hughes Auto Former which will boost each leg voltage as required. All this being said I haven't seen the need on my Excel with only one AC unit, but it sure works on the Mtr Hm with two heat pumps.

Anyone have a link to this "cheater box" or maybe a pic. Don't guess I've seen one. Rockin'

Been doing some reading on these....and from what I've read it sounds like a dangerous deal and not as good as it may sound at first. Tom

Tom,
Go to Camping World, $85.00. These "cheater" boxes don't like GFI receptacles.

The reson I was looking at one is because of the varying voltages you see at parks on 30 or 50 amp service.
There have been times when I was running 30 amp service and would get a low voltage at the box I would plug into the 50 amp line and be ok.
It seemed to me to be a cheaper alternative to the autoformer as I have a Progressive Industries Electrical Management system but it only stops the power coming into the coach it does not condition the power like the autoformer.
I have also heard of campgrounds getting a bit antsy if you use an autoformer.

Would a 50amp draw overload the wiring to a post wired for 30amps?
Does 50 amp cost the CG more than 30amps? If so, would this be like taking a plate of food out of a buffet restaurant?

Bruce,
I think the right party to whom each of us should address these two questions would be the CG Manager. Best bet is to be above board with those folks.
Happy New Year to all!

Theoretically, it shouldn't overload the post as the 20amp circuit should have a 20amp breaker, and the 30amp circuit protected by a 30amp breaker.
However, as we all have seen, campground wiring can be under engineered, undersized, outdated, and/or just not wired properly.
