The boss in our park ask me to go and buy 4 cartridges of Molybdenum grease to lube the park equipment. When I purchased it the cashier asked me for my ID.....when I asked why she said I had to be at least 18!!!! OK....why? Seems the kids are using the moly to make meth....oh for goodness sakes alive!!! When we were kids....we had to be happy with LSD, heroin, pills and pot.....what is the world coming to???

And I thought I knew everything! Has anyone else heard of such a thing? Oh well, back to telling everyone around here just how little I really know!!! SKIA

Lithium grease I could understand- maybe they could extract the lithium- but moly grease???
What could be in moly grease that's useful for methmaking???
I can't find anything out about this online...except this thread!

I hear ya.......I did the Google thing and came up with nothing. I'm just repeating what the cashier said. The register wouldn't ring up the purchase until she put in my birth date proving me being over 18. rockin'

I think she was either pulling your leg or just made that up on the spot..
There must be a reason for the register to flag it, though!.
I know that local hardware stores here are pretty vigilant about spray paint sales because of graffiti problems-
Has there been a rash of grease-related crime in your area?

(Boy, does THAT question ever bring all kinds of weird possibilities to mind!)

I was sorta with ya till you said she wanted proof of your age. Shoot, her register probably doesn't even take a birthdate in the 1800s.

That's what I was thinking as well. I periodically pick up some adult beverages at Wal-Mart and the cashier sometimes asks for my ID. It's like, REALLY? Do you actually think I'm younger than 21?

Yeah......Once a Walmart has been "busted" they ask everyone for their ID for a couple of months.

All kidding aside...

You know, if I were you I'd ask the Store Manager for an explanation. I'm not the hyper-vigilant type, but this just seems strange to me.
The information on your I.D. can be pretty valuable stuff, especially if you also gave the cashier a credit card.

Well, maybe she thought that anyone buying that much grease just HAD to be up to something illegal!
What about it Tom?
