What do you use to clean and wax/polish the gelcoat on your Excel? Is there a particular product that Excel recommends?

Linda, I'm sure everyone has their favorites and it will be interesting to see the responses. I prefer the CAMCO RV Bug & Tar Cutter for routine cleaning. I take our Excel to a self-service car/truck wash two to three times a year for a thorough cleaning. I also use 303 Aerospace Protectant on all exposed surfaces, including the tires.

I use Meguiar's #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax. It can be ordered off Meguiar's web site. It is easy to apply and leaves a good finish. I try to wax my rig 3 times per year. The roof is the hardest part upon which to keep a good finish. I also use 303 Aerospace Protectant on the stripes, tires and any rubber trim pieces.

Merry Christmas

Paul

Thanks for the tip on the Mequiars products, Paul. They have several products that look interesting and that we may order.

We are already familiar with, and use, 303.

Dri-Wash products also work very well. If it's really bad the first time it is a lot of work but after that it's a breeze.

clspds,

I don't have the info with me, but it is a compound that you spray on , let it haze then wipe off. No need to wash to get minor dirt off. When wiping it off it also polishes what ever your our doing. It won't scratch the rig. Go over to the Escappees HDT forum and look for Smokeyjo or Mike Mcfall, they are both dealers.

I did my Volvo truck in a couple of hours time.

Once you put it on it is much easier the next time. It it really dirty, I would wash off the major dirt the old fashion way, water.

Clspds,
You mentioned about the roof is the hardest to keep waxed. I ran into the same problem. I am a nut about taking care of the finish (and everything else)on this rig. I wax about every 3 months and the roof is always chalky and oxidizes like I haven't waxed it in years. Peterson don't really have an answer on this, but I suspect the roof may be a more course of finish than the side. The sides hold a nice shine and looks great between waxes. The roof cleans up with a gentle cleaner and wax but is dead in short order. Anyone one experience the same, and if I quit waxing the roof will it hurt anything? No one really sees the roof. It's too much work to die in 3 months. Thanks!

I believe this is the product that Larry mentioned in his post.

Rockintom,
Your description of your roof is the same as mine. I too try to keep mine looking good. I guess I'll have to give Dri-Wash a try.

Unless you have the Limited with the fiberglass roof, I don't think I'd try Dri-Wash on an EPDM roof. If the Dri-Wash is the same product to which ChiefJohn gave the link, it says to use it on "non-porous" surfaces which an EPDM roof isn't.

Here is a link to the product that I was talking about. They have products for all types of cleaning. I have been very happy with those that I have used. They also have an product to remove oxizadation off. I used it on my boat and was pleased with the results but my boat was very bad and needs it again.

http://www.dri-wash.us/

The link that John had is the same principle.

I think that any fiberglass roof or product will have the problem. All you can do is work at it to keep it clean.
