Anybody ever tried to soak out the calcium with white vinegar or CLR? If so, did it work?

The forum search feature on this forum doesn't seem to be "'Smoke Friendly", i.e., I had already tried it and found nothing about cleaning.

BUT, I believed in you so strongly that I used Google and it worked, I found IRV2 posts showing up on Google.

I found that I should use HOT white vinegar in which I can soak the mixing valve I just removed to get it ready to reuse. It is soaking as I type this.

Now, is there a way to introduce white vinegar into the water heater occasionally to dissolve the calcium inside and stop the mixing valve from clogging in the first place?

Virg......I don't know but here is a link to a some of the discussion regarding issues with the valve including folk that had success with cleaning and others not. iRV2 Forums - Search Results Do I need to print the stuff off and snail mail it to you??? Get off your "paradise" butt and read up!!!

Getting the valve freed up may take movement of the adjusting screw back and forth on the valve (make note of it's original location). Soaking it in vinegar, lime away or the like ain't gonna hurt either. Your smartalic buddy!

A "smart alec" or "smart aleck," sometimes colloquially referred to as a "smartass," is a person regarded as obnoxiously self-assertive and impudent.

SIRknowitall, first, did you graduate and secondly, where is that adjustment screw? If it is under that black cap, does the black cap screw off or do I just pry it off?

Shos I gadieates! Jr. High!

Yeah, take off the cover and then you have to work out the glue that covers the adjusting screw. That's the tamperproof part of it. They try to keep us DIYers from fixing it. Actually I think it a allen headed screw.

I think if I was faced with the mixing valve issue, I'd put one on these $38.00 valves. 0215473 - Watts 0215473 - 1/2" L70A-T Lo-Temp Threaded Tempering Valve (100°-130°)

I heard they work fine.

Yeah, I could come down and do the little girlie job of installing the valve and Virg could teach me how to get "unstuck" easily. Lord knows he's had the OK stuck more times than Carter's got little pills. And thats only the times I've known about. See there....it would be a win-win situation!!!

No more of spinning those little tires!!!
