What is the preferred way to clean the plugs on the shore cable and the bargeman cord? In the past I have cleaned the male part of the plug with steel wool. I have sprayed the female part with electrical contact cleaner. The contacts on the female side are looking dull so I'm looking for a new way to clean them.

Cloud,
Good to hear from ya! I clean and service mine the same way you do. I think that works just fine with nothing else needed. One thing to remember is that the contacts don't have to be super clean on that circuit as it a high current circuit and it keeps itself electrically "clean" with little resistance when passing higher current.

I use contact cleaner on my 7 way connector too.

It's those pesty little circuits on electronic type connections that we really have to worry about (I.E. thermostat controls, water heater board connections). After cleaned and making sure terminals have appropriate drag, dielectric grease is needed to keep out moisture preventing corrosion which increases resistance and interrupts the circuit. rockin'

On edit: I'm about as obsessed on the dielectric grease thing as Workhorse is on his "Goo Gone"!!!

Howdy! I use a fingernail emery board to clean down inside the female plugs contacts. The fine sandpaper and the narrow shape are just perfect.
