Lately we notice a metallic clunk clunk when we walk on the LR floor, specifically on the slides floor in front of the refrig, where I spend a lot of time, and on the main floor in front of the couch. Sounds like metal flexing.

Is this common, or should I expect snakes to emerge from the carpet at any moment?

I'm having a bit of a problem figuring this one out Bruce. Clunk, clunk, clunk and metal flexing don't go together in my no-business mind. If it is a metal flexing, if it is like mine, is a heater ducting in the floor flexing when you walk near it. In the auto industry we call it "oil canning". Remember, like a oil can that you pushed on the bottom, and it made the noise, like metal flexing. Our floors creak and crack and pop when you walk across them, even the steps. Makes it hard to sneek that midnight snack! I don't seem to worry about it, though. You may be discribing something different and someone else may come up with something more. Good luck. Tom

I also notice some floor creaking occasionally, but not all the time. Seems to depend on how the coached is leveled. I don't know why it does it, but Excel has one of the strongest floors I have ever seen in an RV. The floor Joice are 2"X3" on 12" centers instead of 16" like most coaches. The sub floor is 5/8" plywood and then there is a top floor of 1/8" plywood bonded to that for a total of 3/4". It's definitely not caused from lack of good support or poor construction technique.

Bob,
My thoughts exactly. Since they are so robust I don't mind a little bit of noise. At least they they ain't fall thru while big boy rockin' and his friends are bouncing around in this thing. Now you know why I have the padded ceiling too!

As usual, most anything can be found on this forum...thank goodness! So our slide, beside the dinette table has start the clunk, or creak, or tin can sound. Did anyone ever solve their sounds? Bruce and Jenna, is it still doing it? In other words, do I learn to live with it?
thanks all!

Lots and lots of noises. We are currently in low humidity conditions and the floor snaps and creaking when walked on. Also the heater ducts pop with temperature differentials or walked on. I would consider most normal. If you get one area to stop....it's a temporary fix and sometimes you create a new one when you fix another. rockin'

After a month or two down here on the Arizona desert our LR floors begin to squeak and squawk. How well the trailer is leveled seems to affect the situation. For two years now when we return to more humid climates the squeaks quiet down.

As to the clunking/oil canning, while we've never had it in the LR it has happened serveral times in the BR. This one is definitely a function of leveling and can, in our case, be made to disappear with a bit of fine tuning on the jacks.

I don't hear this in my LRh/kitch floor any longer. Of course, Lippert replaced the kitch slide frame not but two months ago.

Now I hear a clunk and feel flex in the BR floor between the bed and closet. But I'm too busy fixing other stuff right now, i.e. the hydraulic pump and the black tank, to work on it.

Bruce,

Yep, that clunking in the BR between the bed and the closet comes and goes in our unit as well. Sometimes we also get it between the end of the bed and the vanity. Having said that, the mysterious clunk has been absent since we left Alaska back in September. EEEEEK! I shouldn't have said that.

Seriously, I don't worry about it. Life is too short and there is too much fun to be had for the taking. Besides, I am going to be graced with a visit by that famous KIA (not kick in the a**) Sir Tom and his buddy Still in the not too distant future. Now that is something to worry about! (Not referring to you, Still.)
