Well after a little over two years I noticed a little water on the floor next to the commode… I needed to replace the water valve on the back. It was a simple fix once I got the part. I have a Camping World 1.5 miles from me so I immediately went there and low and behold they didn’t have the part. They told me they had to order it and it would be ten days. Well I couldn’t and didn’t want to wait ten days so I went to a Ma and Pop RV repair shop and they had my part. The ironic thing was they where $3 cheaper than Camping World….It was a good reminder for me to check with the locals when I am on the road and give them some of my business.

That is an easy repair. I already had one go bad on our new rig (leaked water externally). Seems like Thetford has some issues with them. The water was standing by the base in the morning and Donna thought I had simply had a "misfire" during the night.......how dare her!!!!! At least I'm not peeing in the closet.......yet!!! rockin'

Since the problems I had with that valve on my previous rig I carry a spare one. Those things are real tricky on what will make them leak. My sister_in_law came and stayed for a week and she got it to leaking and I flushed it a few times and it quite for some time and I finally had to change it.

Our Camping World is 35-40 miles away....a small RV dealer 'bout 5 miles. CW has a large selection of general items I might need and unless it's on sale for a good price I will shop at the small dealer. I have one of their parts counter catalogs and can usually find what I need from it before giving them a call. If it's not in their catalog and I can get the part number from the web....they will usually get it for me at a good price.

I'm in the process of replacing my sliding battery box with one that will hold two 6 volts, original one to small, unfortunately there cost is $30 higher than I can get online. But they will get my $ first if I can.

I realize this thread is about buying from the small guy but I sure wish there was a better alternative available in these things but Thetford. We have a porcelan "Aurora" and I just can't seem to keep it working properly. That dadgumed "blade" is a pain. At first paper got trapped inside the rubber seal and now the spring does not cause it to close properly and we have to lift up on the pedal to get it to seal. It has been a pain from the gitgo.

Virg,

You might want to do a search on this subject. There is no need to have an improper working blade/seal toilet operation. Our original seal lasted 2 months from delivery....after we learned the right way to treat it....our last seal lasted over 4 years and was just starting barely starting to drag when I replaced it. rockin'

Thanks, I'll go look.

Did I tell you yet today that I hate home repairs?

This was the first toilet I had any problems with in four rigs and in 11 years. I feel that it might be caused since one can not open the valve completely to put water in the bowl. Unlike the two pedal models where I could simply put my foot down and open the valve. It was so nice having the Manblock system to shut the water off to the stool. I was able to live normal until the repair was complete. Since it was the middle of the work week I repaired and reinstalled immediately. If it would have been the weekend I would have repaired and hooked the toilet up to a water hose outside to check for leaks and see if the new valve was good. It has been two days with a dry floor so I reinstalled the shroud tonight.

Since I do very limited boon docking I very seriously considered installing a toilet for a S%B....I would have bypassed the the water tank and install a hand valve to put water in the bowl and flushing. I do know a couple of folks that have done this in their RV. Has anyone with an Excel ever done this?
