While I'm asking thought I would seek your opinion on whether we need a diesel engine. Looking to purcase a 3/4 ton DWR but not sure if we need a diesel. Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome back farmer 2. Clearly you'd want a diesel and a 1 ton DRW to pull any Excel. Even that type of truck would be undersize for some of the Excels in the 36ft. length and 18,000 lbs. weight. Better to have a little too much truck than too little.

Diesel. If you ever want to go bigger you'll be better of.

Also I don't think they make a DWR in a 3/4 ton. Most that I have seen are 1 ton. That better also.

If you'll stop by the "Big 3" dealerships and pick up their towing guides so that you can see the towing capacities of the various configurations, you'll quickly see that a diesel has far more towing capacity than an equivalently-equipped gas engine.

You say you want a 3/4-ton DWR truck. I've never seen a dual rear wheel truck in a 3/4-ton...there is no such creature (at least as it comes off the assembly line). You'll need to move up to a 1-ton to get dual rear wheels.

And Rockintom is correct about getting a 1-ton DWR truck...you'll probably be very unhappy with a 3/4-ton truck since the pin weight of almost every Excel will put you over a 3/4-ton's GVWR and rear GAWR.
