Direction of overhang framing
I have a 2007 Excel 30RSO Classic. Does anyone know for for certain if the framing above the overhang (between gen compartment and pin box) runs lengthwise or crosswise to the long axis of the trailer? And what these frame members are made of?
Thanks

And just for your info, in 2004 they went to a lighter design in the pinbox area at SOP 2004 and kept it thru 2007. In 2008 they went back using the more robust structure (2003 and prior) at SOP 2008.
The lighter pinbox structure proved to fail (frame fracture) under heavy/hard usage trailers.

How about installing one of these on both sides of the pin box.

Our '05 never had an issue. Problems usually occur when someone uses a gooseneck set up or do some Alaskan trips where the rig really gets a work out. Repair is usually adding braces and bracket to reinforce the area. If it cracks out, you'll know in short order you see and hear the pinbox creaking and crunching! Here's few pix I have of a friend's '06 MKE. He was on his way home from Alaska. Had emergency welding done to get it back to SC for official repairs.

I've never seen one of these fail outright.
It happens over time as shown by cracked metal that has rusted vs. the metal that is shiny and just cracked.
By keeping an eye on things it can be dealt with before it become an issue.

Well interesting about the Alaska comment. Guess where we’re off to this May for several months.

We do go slow and enjoy the sights the journey is the destination. Plan on taking hour to five months for the trip. Will keep an eye and ear open for possible troubles, thanks for the heads up.
