Hello All:

Question: Where do you locate the kitty's litter box when you travel with your kitty?

We've experimented with a few different locations but haven't found anything satisfactory.

May have to panel off the bottom of a cabinet and provide an access door.

Would love to place an access door that would lead to a location in the basement that could be accessed from outside.

Thoughts and/or best possible solutions requested.

THANK YOU in advance for all responses.

Ken & Patti C.

We had a Kountry Aire 'way back' when and traveled, including cross country trips with two cats. That 5er had a rear bath (and a real tub/shower!!) and would put the pan there. The cats never had a mistake.

Now - for an access door, many 5ers have steps leading up to the bath and BR. You could open an access through there with a passage to the basement. You might want to make a "toilet" room with a vinyl floor and maybe walls (accidents can happen - and cat p-- stinks forever) for them there as most 5ers have some sort of access to the belly for wiring and plumbing from the basement. A simple door for clean out from the outside hatch can then be made. Sounds like a fun winter project.

Well... There is a place in the motor home that we do not often use.. Even though we should.. Kitty gets housed there.

However in truth the answer I could give if I actually gave it,, Would not do you any good less you have the same floor plan we have.

On our Itasca Sunova 35 J, we turn the drivers seat around and place litter box behind the back of the driver's seat and under the steering wheel. We use a pretty large box and it fits fine. While actually traveling, we just place the box off the aisle a bit. Stopped, with the box in place we've had people ask where it was since it pretty much hidden. When we had an Alpine with computer desk, it fit under the desk and back away our feet.

Happy travels with the kitty.

We keep the litter box in the tub/shower. When we need to use the shower, we temporarily move it outside the bathroom.

The cat box fits perfectly under our parrot cage. There is a wonderful picture on another forum of a modification of a basement compartment converted to a kitty rest room. It is complete with carpeted ramp and ceramic tile! Wonderful concept. It looks easy to clean and very safe for the cat.

We had some trouble during a panic stop. But everything turned out alright after some cleaning.

Having owned 8 RVs of various types, here are some of our solutions...
-On floor right behind driver's seat in Class C
-In an open storage compartment under the fridge in a small trailer (removed door)
-In a compartment under a dinette seat in a 5th wheel (removed door)
-Hung pan from custom brackets under floor at location of unused clothes chute opening to basement of 5th wheel. Removed door to compartment leading to chute. Cat had "step down" toddy.
-In our present motorhome, removed the clothes hamper and door leaving a nice open space under the bedroom vanity. Hung a curtain over the opening.

We use Arm & Hammer litter and maintain regularly, and seldom get a whiff of a problem.

My cat has it's own "bathroom". I found unused space above the waste tanks and behind a hinged external panel. I then cut an access hole in the floor between the vanity and shower...a space about 6 inchs wide...and my cat now has it's own bathroom completely out of the way. I open the external panel to access and clean the cat box. It works great, and has greatly reduced the amount of cat litter brought back into the coach. I even put carpet and an LED nightlight in the space.

All 3 of our MH have had a Vanity. We move the seat out and the litter box fits nicely. I have a rubber runner cut to size and then we just sit it on it. In our present Itasta 34A we put her water in the bath hall and the food is in the corner by the dinette. By having in the Vanity area we never have to move it while traveling or parked and it is easy to get to for the daily cleaning.

We once met a couple with a cat litter box built into the storage under their bed. You could smell the odor throughout the RV. We would not recommend it.

I didn't realize so many RVers had cats with them until I read this thread. The funny part is I never see any one walking around the CG with a cat leashed. I must not stay at the right places.

We have some friends that solved the problem by having a custom built cabinet for the litter box. The cat can get into the box from behind the co-pilot seat.

Little Miss Kitty likes to do it's thing in private. Dogs have no shame. My wife dogs show me that all the time.

If you can smell odor, then something's wrong. If you're using the right litter, tending the box regularly and the cat(s) are not "going" (or spraying) somewhere else, you shouldn't smell anything.

I wouldn't even think about taking my cat outside because there are usually so many people with dogs walking about. Kitty gets upset just looking outside through the screen door and someone walking their dog passes by.

Personally, I don't think RVers with cats should even camp in the "pet loop(s)" if the campground has them. The dogs make so much noise, it's stressful to the cats. Cats are usully quiet, have their own inside bathroom facilities and are no more noticable than if you brought your pet goldfish camping.
