Hi Everyone,

As the time gets near to start RVing again, I would like to get some information from you.

The door into the coach must have warped some way and I was looking for suggestions on how to fix it.

Right after we bought it used, it was snowing and snow was coming in through the gap in the door. The gap is at the top left corner of the door and I don't know how much gap there is as I have not measured it.

It almost seems that I could pull on the door from the inside to rewarp to narrow the gap.
I have tried this but either I am not getting the pivot point in the right place or there is to much spring in the door so maybe I need to add more wood to give me more room to spring it back into place.

Am I right in my thinking or totally messed up, watch it Tom. If there is some other way to adjust the door please let me know.

Larry,
I think I know what your talking about. But when you say the gap seems to be in the left top corner are you talking from the inside or outside. Our back door had this issue when new. I could see daylight between the door and door frame in that same corner(from inside). I found by simply adjusting the door striker in (door tighter to door frame)I almost eliminated the gap.(still get some air by the weatherstrip, but no water). Got it much better.....but remember when you set up and take down things changes and sometimes these things need readjusting from time to time.

Hopefully someone else while have more/better info.

BTW have a great time on your CO club outing. I know it will be fun. Have one for ol' rockin' and please talk about me with all my buds!
No matter what you say...it's probably true! Tom

Top left from the outside. We are going out this weekend so I will play with it some.

I am not as high class as you, when I have one for you it will probably be goose and juice.

And I will make sure I tell all the <STRIKE>lies</STRIKE> good things about you.

Larry, sounds as if your not near your unit.

Do you think the door is out of alignment or possibly has a bent door frame. Guess you would notice a frame being bent, but after the weekend I had with Rockin, a little gun shy. Have you ran a 24-36" (might need longer) straight edge up the frame on the unit and the frame on the door to see if it's out any.

Looked at the door on my unit, It felt very solid. The two areas I would look at is the area where the hinges attach to the doors frame. I took the screws out of the bottom hinge to see how much play there was and how it attached. When I re-fastened the hinge, Had to push it back or move the door's frame out to get the hinge to seat back into a small lip area of the door. The gasket seemed to get in the way also. I would look at the hinge mounting, at the door, and see if there all screwed in some sort of 'same plane'.

Also noticed that the frame of the door has a series of screws running around the perimeter of the frame that attaches the frame to the inner panel makeup. The screws on mine are 'bout 1/2" long. Wonder if slightly loosening them and closing the door and tightening them up again would help.

If need be can post a picture of the hinge/screw/small lip if I didn't explain it well.

Hope something helped.
Chris

Chris,

Those are some good ideas. We will be taking it out this weekend and I can play with it a little more.

The morning after we picked it up it was snowing and we were near Raton Pass so when the snow came in the door it seemed a bit strange. I think since then we have had it out twice, it was cold and I was working on getting the bedroom TV to pick up the signal from my roof dish. Still need to work on that, though about ready to give up and take in in to the shop.

Tom,

The door striker didn't come into my brain.
I was looking for a harder solution. Why make it easy when you can make it hard.

I know what I will be doing this weekend. Hard hat is ready, flashlight is ready, clipboard is ready and inspection mirror out. Sounds like work, where is the goose and juice.

Read what I posted yesterday and wasn't sure if I understood what I said about the hinge.

Here's a picture of my hinge and the lip I was refering to. After looking at it closer and in a 'different way' not sure the hinge being over the lip would create that big a gap. It would be noticable for sure as it is at the edge of the door and should be behind the lip and flush with the frame.

You can see the other screw I was refering to, it's above and centered.

Tom had a good idea with the strike plate. If it's not adjusted properly it could cause problems in other areas. I agree with you, it's got to be something harder to deal with.

I'm glad Tom didn't request the hardhat and mirror, we could have been out there all day. Sounds like your inspection is going to be harder than mine. Hope the list is short.
