We ordered our coach with the built-in Dirt Devil vacuum. At first, we weren’t going to include it, cuz I read some posts about it not working very well. But we decided to get it anyway. We used it for almost a whole year despite the frustration of lugging that long heavy hose around the house. We both still have full-time jobs, so we share all of the household chores, but Jan does most of the interior cleaning. She says I don’t clean to “her standards”. That may have something to do with the fact that if there are a pair of shoes on the floor, I will vacuum AROUND them rather than taking the time to move them! Anyway, the last few times Jan cleaned, she told me her back hurt after vacuuming (after having back surgery several years, we’re always careful to keep here fused disks as comfortable as possible).

We saw an ad for the Dyson DC35 cordless vac. Dyson is “very proud” of their vacuum cleaners (the DC35 goes for $299; we got ours at Target). But Dyson is also known for their high quality products, so we decided to give it a try. Jan vacuumed the carpet with the Dirt Devil, and then with the Dyson immediately after. She was very impressed with all the additional crud the Dyson sucked out of the carpet! The entire unit weighs around 4 pounds and comes apart for easy charging and storage. The head unit mounts to a charging bracket and takes up very little space. I mounted ours in the corner cabinet of the bedroom (where the TV would normally go). The only possible issue we see is with the limited battery life between charges. The unit has two speeds: low and high. The manual says to expect approximately 12 minutes on low, and only 6 on high. Jan did the whole house in about 5 minutes (there's really not that much carpet area if you think about it). So she's very happy with it, which means I'm happy as well!

We've had one for a couple of months and think it's GREAT!

We're in the process of selling our house and bought it to do a quick touch up vacuum before prospective buyers came to look at the house. Definitely NOT a replacement vacuum for a house, but, perfect for a quick touch up.

We've also found it perfect for the motorhome. Although we've got a built-in vacuum, the Dyson is great for a daily quick trip from back to front. The vacuum works well on both the carpeted areas and the tile areas. We've found the battery life to be easily sufficient to do the entire coach.

Although it does seem a little expensive, it works very well!

Take care,
Stu

P.S. Yes, I do vacuum...it lets me stay in touch with my feminine side.

Sounds good Glenn! We have done the dirt devil on all 3 Excels. I haven't had any problems with the DD....it works OK for me. And I'm the primary domestic duty guy. The new DD have the white "cloth" type bags, which are much finer mesh (smaller micron) than the older blue bags. The good part of that is nothing gets passed the bag and into the motor housing. The bad part of it is, if you vacuum up something like some spilled flour or the like, the bag plugs up and won't flow regardless of how much dirt is in the bag. Means you gotta change the bag any time you vacuum up anything fine. Other than that we's happy with the old standard DD. Guess you could just call us "old fashioned"!!! rockin'

We have a dyson at home and love it. After looking at that hand held thing and trying it out I was not impressed one bit.
