When you open any of the exterior doors you will see a number of screws which attach the frame to the trailer. Water can reach these screws. Water can come in contact with the wood. Wet wood leads to dry rot and an expensive repair. The screws which cause the greatest problems are on the bottom. If you take the screw out and see rust then you have a water leak at that screw. I found four screws out of sixteen to have rust. I sealed the holes by putting a little silicon in the hole when I replaced the screw.

I have seen and done the same thing, even replacing all the screws with stainless steel. The two screws that hold in the latches are also a place where water gets into the door, they also need to be removed and put back in wet with silicone sealant. This is time and effort well spent for the long haul.

Welcome to iRV2.com and the "Excel Owner's Forum" -- an outstanding site for all things related to RV'ing. Thanks for the input on the exterior screw issue. As Bob stated in his post, several of us have also discovered this problem and taken similar repairs. I also recommend that you check similar exterior screws for corrosion. We look forward to hearing of your Excel experiences and possibly meeting at the 2009 Excel Family Reunion.
