Fixture won't illuminate. I replaced bulbs still no help. So I took it apart and this is what I found. Looks like a burned out capaciter or resister but what do I know. One last question, where is the ballast?

Is this a "replace the fixture" deal?

John, I think this is what you want....believe the fixture is made by Sunray....the TS30 on the board gave it away....I have the Sunray as my primary ceiling fixtures and Thinlite under counters.

Rockin' turned me on the this site some times ago, looks like they have upgraded their site for the better. SKIA can give more info later if needed.

Should be able to replace the BOARD rather than the entire fixture.

Thanks!. I was hoping you were monitoring today. I'll order one right away. The trick will be me installing it!!!

John...don't know if you saw the edit on my post.....they have an instruction sheet I listed as BOARD....You should be able to do it without a problem, just remember to turn off your wall switch.

The damaged part is a diode. (Markings are very clear)

On a 12 volt florescent fixture, though we call the thing you photographed (The circuit board) "The ballast" in fact there is no ballast, it's an inverter.

So the answer to the "Where is the ballast" question is: There is none

But the board you took a picture of.. That replaces it.

John, I want to make a correction or varification on one of the links I posted earlier. I linked to the RB16 in my prior post....as you have a TS30 stamp on the circuit board... I should have linked to the RB30 to be correct.

As the order sheet list the RB 16 and RB30, they are for different fixtures. I'm sure they would have made sure you got the correct one...but wanted to make sure and clear that up for you and everyone.

Sunray list the item as a Ballast by the way.

Work,
I don't think I'll attempt to replace the "ballast", I'll just get a new fixture and hope I can figure out how to install that. I'm just not that ambitious. Thanks for the help.

No need to apologize folks, I have been calling me easy all of my life...easy to look at, easy to talk to and just plain easy! Honestly, Easy is Miss Jo's pet name for me.

V. Why don't you hire it done or order a new Excel!!

Virg,

Your light is a model 930.

I called and left you a message on this issue. I have alot of experience on this one....I've replaced one light assy. and update 7 more lights! The "new" replacement light had the "old borard" in it and it lasted about 8 months. I had to order the new board to upgrade the "new" light assy! They wouldn't honor the warranty on the new light because the company has been sold out to a new owner and they didn't assume the resonsiblities of the old business. The new owner will send the new updated board (which now has a heat sink added). $22.00 for the board and $7.00 shipping (up to 2 boards for that shipping price). Anyone can contact me for the particulars on this with my email on file in my profile.

Keep in mind that the circuit board converts the 12V to 24V and running your fluorescent lights with a low battery overworks/overheats the circuit board.

Don't forget to rotate your bulbs from side to side and end to end every 12 months (I do it at 6 months) to extend the bulb life by 30%. Don't laugh it's in the owner's manual! If you priced the bulbs lately......they ain't cheap! rockin'

workhorse,

Your correct on the RB 30 ballast.....but based on experience, I don't follow the instructions enclosed as I've found the retainers that the wires connect to and clip that hold the male terminals in the bulbs are very touchy and flimsy. They lose there spring tension when you push in the paper clip to release the old wires. Not good. To eliminate this, I just cut and splice (I solder) the new wires to the old wires and not jack with more than necessary. Just my experience. FWIW! rockin'

John ,in most cases it is about as cheep for you to buy a new fixture as to have it fixed. Make sure it is the same size and wattage most fixtutes have lamps with them.Make sure power is off ,and you will have no problem, the 12V will not shock you ,but the device does not like arks.

Free,
In this case, if you read my previous post, it's almost half the price to repair than replace. And, with my experience, the new one had the old ballast and it crapped out in about 8 months. rockin'
