Maybe I'm trying to fix something that ain't broke. We have the subject toilet in our Excel. It is two years old. Ever since it was new, we have had to "pop" the larger pedal to make it hold water. When I say "pop", I mean we have to slide our toe off the pedal and allow it to snap back up into place. I'm trying to say that we have to close it so hard that it seems detrimental to the equipment over the long haul and then occasionally, even that is not effective.
We took it in to a dealer and they installed a new seal for the "flap". Still no better functionality.
Here is my question. Am I trying to fix something that everyone else just puts up with or do I really have a problem toilet?

John,
We had a prroblem with the toilet not holding the seal water after a flush. I fixed it by cleaning around the gasket with a rubber glove and then coating the seal with plumber's silicon. I also coat the flapper vavle with the silicon. Back to working well. I find that I have to do this about once every 2 -3 mos. Sure saves a lot of trouble in replacing the gasket.

Virg,
First off your toilet should not do that.
Just want clarification on your statement. Directly after the dealer replaced the seal did it work OK for a while? If it didn't then you most likely have a ball cock (Thetford calls it a blade) return spring problem, a binding pedal cable, or misinstalled or faulty seal. You just need to take out the toilet (for me - easiest to work on) and determine your problem. These toilets are super easy to work on.
If it worked OK immediately after the seal replacement then do what Tim recommended. Personally I got about 6 months out of my first blade seal cause I was using caustic type cleaners which simply "eat" the teflon coating off the sealing surface of the seal. That makes it bind and stick. Now I use the generic form of Scrubby Bubbles (aerosol) which I get at the dollar store to do my cleaning. I then treat my seal with Thetford seal conditioner which I get at CW (or RV parts store) about twice a month. Good seal performance for almost 4 years (FTing) before needing to replace again. Seal replacement takes maybe 45 minutes to do. Hope this helps. Your ol' buddy rockyhead!

John, to be honest I can not even tell you what model I have at the present. Is your’s the two pedal or one? When I had the two pedal I do remember doing the up action thingy with my toes. The one I have now has one pedal and I don’t like it. If I push it down to far the ball valve opens and I lose my water. You need to plan you’re trips with this one and can not be in a big hurray. I try to plan for a future visit by leaving water in the bowl!!

I'm so not a fixer so believe me if I had done anything to fix it, I'd share it. The truth is, you are a pest and I ain't done nuthin!
Taking out the toilet is way beyond what I want to spend my time doing. I just wanted to know if everybody else's toilet worked like mine or if I had a problem. Appears as though I have a problem.
