Being new at F/Ting we had some questions regarding PM. What sort of upkeep do you do on your rigs? What do you watch for and have to service on a regular basis. Any set routines one could incorporate into a list?
My 2nd question is with trailer shake when one walks or moves about. We have read where a block between wheels helps and perhaps a tripod.
Anything would be helpful,
Thanks, Phil

When we owned fivers we used something like this between the wheels... HERE is a link to this unit at rvupgrades, an iRV2 sponsor.

Blocks between the wheel AND a tripod will help. We've installed JT's Strong Arm Jack Stabilizer that elimates 99.99% of all movement, even when the washing machine is on the spin cycle!
Just one caution with the JT's: The distance between Excel's front jacks is less than most fifth wheels, so the people who installed them had to have a special, shorter, arm fabricated.

Hey Linda,
How much time does it take to install and remove those JT's Stabilizers??
Thanks!

Phil,
Its sounds like no one has answered your basic maintenance issues. Most can be found in the owner's manual and off the PI website. I put together the major ones I perform. Here they are. If someone can add to mine I would sure like that! Tom
Basic Maintenance Items for Excel
1. Spray all slide weather strips with silicone, every 6 months (food based type silicone, no petroleum based products)
2. Silicone spray all slide rams and mechanism
3. Vacuum dust and sawdust from outside refer area. No compressed air.
4. Silicone spray manual antenna on roof. Black plug remove at antenna base and use spray tube to get silicone inside. To preserve seal to prevent water leak.
5. Lube leaf spring shackles with good moly chassis grease
6. Drain & flush water heater. Caution only cold water heater to prevent burns. Use water heater water flusher available from SOME Super Center Wal-Mart's, all RV parts stores, and Camping World. About $10.00 Suggest having an extra drain plug on hand as the head break off plugs, easily. Use thread sealant on plug threads. Don't over tighten.
7. Clean and wax at least twice a year
8. Check tires often, including spare - 110 lbs.
9. Lube step mechanism with silicone spray
10. Use Protectant 303 on Fantastic vent fan seal and vent cover.
11. Inspect furnace and refer burner for clean flame and operation.
12. Clean AC inside chill grill filter (foam)
13. Clean AC condenser coil AND evaporator coil – once a year. I use a vacuum.

There is NO installing and removing! That's one of the great things about the JT's -- you don't have to find a place to stash them as they're permanently installed!
Go to the URL I gave in my post above. There is a video that shows how they work.
