I recently found, after buying an infrared temp "toy", that the temp in our refer had a significant difference between the top and bottom shelf. You'd think the bottom would be colder because cold air is heavier. Well, I found 40 derees at the bottom and 31 at the top. I had a circulating fan on the bottom shelf too. I moved the fan to the top shelp and the temps changed to 32 on top shelf and 34 on the bottom shelf. The freezer is 9 degrees. Our refer setting is 5.

When we travel, we usually turn the refer off and just let then fan circulate the air. Nothing has ever happened to the food. You can be sure though, I'll be checking the temps next time we move.

Hey Tim,

Temps vary quite a bit in the refers. It my understanding it has to do with the function and lay out of the ammonia style refer. If you go to the owner's manual it will give you the coldest spots. IIRC, the left rear corner of the freezer and the top of the right top corner of the refer are the coldest areas (I would have to go back and reread to be sure). I think that's where the tubes first enter each compartment. HTHs! rockin'

That makes sense because I put the fan in the upper right corner and the temps are within 2 degres throughout the refer. I'm leaving the freezer alone. No room for a fan, too much fish.

What kind of beer? I'm kind of finicky about the beer. I don't like the real cheap lite stuff. Actually I'm more of a "Glenfiddich on the rocks" fan. THat's why we have an ice maker that puts out 32# of ice a day.

Ain't no beer snob, just like to see a color change. . Oops, I think we are really drifting "off topic". That's what happens to us sailors, we tend to drift a little every now and then.

Color change, huh? You know what they say "you can't buy it, only rent it".

P.S. Tim, I think we are officially now "off topic". I forgot as I'm usually posting on the off topic thread. We better stop before "you know who" gets out her big blue crop and puts the whoop up on us!!!

To get back on topic, well sort of, I'll now know which shelf and location to keep the brew at it's proper temperature.

Oh MM, please excuse us both. Don't "whip me, beat me."

Naw, we try to be as innocent as freshly driven snow. It just seems to happen w/o any warning. Maybe, there's that little devil hanging around.

...and to get back "On-topic"...
you know...my fridge works very well UNLESS I have it jammed packed full of the "Troll dinner" fixings! I am hoping that Bruce & Jenna can make that trip to the "dealer" in Sacramento on my day off so I can fix them dinner...so I can show another Excel owner that I can stay "On-Topic" sometimes.
