Excel wall construction

Long time lurker coming out of hiding in anticipation of finally pulling the trigger on an RV this spring.

Iím preparing to look at a 2012 Excel 33GKE. Iíve probably overlooked this information somewhere else, but can anyone point me to info on how Excel walls were constructed?

The rig Iím looking also has a cracked counter top (end of island). Iím assuming this is a rather easy or inexpensive repair from a counter installer. Anyone else have any experience with that?

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

Spencer

Welcome to the forum Spencer. The walls of the Excel are done very well. They have almost no failures. We had a 2012 33 GKE for sale, but it is now sold. You talk about the island having a crack. Are you sure it's an island???..that model came with a peninsula not an island. I guess someone could have ordered it from the factory with an island. Just FYI the early built GKEs have the early rear end cap (with back up lights and a built in bumper. The later models have the new style rear cap with no bumper and no back up lights. We loved our GKE and sure miss it.

rockintom you are correct, itís a peninsula. Iíve posted a couple pics.
George, thanks for the vid links.

Iím brand new to this and may be losing a bit of sleep wondering what I havenít thought of. Itís a consignment at a Camping World. So I may be a bit paranoid and over cautious. True to everything Iíve read, they know nothing about the unit and seem to care only about selling me a warranty and then sending me down the road with it.

Iíve never pulled a fifth before. While I have no concerns about my truck (2017 Ram 3500, Aisin, 4.10, DRW, B&W 25k hitch) I havenít done a test pull because the rig has 2010 tires on it (looks like previous owner had replaced with higher end but used at some point). The rest of the unit checks out fine for its age. Frankly looks like it has sat for most of its life.

So price is negotiated, deposit is down, and now Iím arranging for Sailun S637ís to be installed. Short of a parking lot brake test...anything obvious youíd recommend?

The counter top looks like something heavy was dropped on it or hit with something. Hope you examined for leaks especially if it has spent its life outside.
