We have the W/D closet in the front of the bedroom curbside corner closet on our L33 GKE. I have been looking for info regarding if the closet doors have to be open while the washer or dryer is in operation. The operation is so much quieter if the doors are closed, but we are concerned that the doors should be open.....I don't seem to notice any overheating in the closet after running the W/D combination. I just don't want to find out later that I should be running it with the doors opened.

I've searched the Excel Owner Manual and the Whirlpool literature and find nothing pertaining to this subject. Anyone know? Thanks,
rockywashout!!!!

Tom, aren't your doors louvered. If so there's your answer. They vent the space and you can close them.

Are the doors to your washer/dryer so air tight that there is no ventilaztion with them closed?

Our washer and dryer (separates, not combination) are in the bathroom and we do leave one door open only because that's where we have the toilet paper holder attached. However, there is space around the doors when they are both closed so that I wouldn't be concerned about them being closed with one or the other (or both) were in operation.

when using the washer/dryer, ee leave the doors open
not that we found specific instructions - but common sense was that the machine needed some air to stop any over heating issues

Tom,

I think you should take air & bearing temps with the door open & closed. That will put you on the way to regaining your SKIA title. Also make sue to check the dryer outlet temp to check efficiency. You could alway just go to the laundromat and not worry about it! . SKIA is on the way back.

Thanks Linda......the doors edges would allow for some ventilition but I guess what you say makes sense.....I'll just leave them open and close the bedroom french door if I want it quiet in the living room. No big deal. You'd think there would some info on this subject listed somewhere.

I can't afford to buy a new unit every 18 months so I don't pay close attention to the doors for the laundry. Besides I park near water most of the time. Billie does the wash the old fashion way. Dip the bibs in the water then pound them between two rocks. I get that high price stone wash effect the cheap way. OUCH, THAT HURT!!!!

Rockin'...we don't have a washer/dryer installed but do have the louvered doors. I guess one of the advantages of an OLDER model.

I don't know the model that you have, but on this Splendide data sheet, under dryer exhaust, it does state a requirement for ventilation. This data sheets for a vented unit requires even less? It would only make sense to have some sort of air flow into the cabinet..

Seems to me you talking about two concerns: temperature and moisture. You could measure both with a remote temperature sensor in the closet, then make your decision.

My weather station records the Max and Min measurements for each sensor. Thus you don't need to sit there and watch the station for the entire cycle.
