Route 66 and Hwy 40 have taken on many different names during the last 60+ years. In addition to the previously mentioned changes, Hwy 40 is now I64 from the Mississippi River to I70.

Here’s a photo from Chicago, one can not even stop and stretch you’re legs at the end or start depending one which way you are going.

How rude! I've said for years, Route 66 is just not very accomodating.

On one of the morning shows this weekend, one of the reporters took Route 66 in Oklahoma to New Mexico and the over all opinion was Ruote 66 is dead and been replaced by I-40. Just a gravel road in spots and even went through a town that does not exist to day. Ghost town. Scary.

We would not be able to take our Excel's down this path.

Yes, but when I ran it, it was the new road that took Route 66’s place. I have never tried to drive any of the old original route. I think that the TV show with the Corvette made the name glorious and typical, what I have researched none of the shows where filmed on any of the original Route 66. I did have a Route 66 coffee cup but the Excel bucked and it got broken and thrown in the trash.
