I would too Russell.

There is an advantage to the standard connector in that it's available just about everywhere. It's inexpensive to replace both the plug and/or socket if they start to give you problems.

Instead of a junction box mounted to the pin box I was thinking about mounting a female 7 way receptical and make up a male 7 way on both ends of the cord to the truck. This would allow for easy reapair or replacement and two points for it to "break-a-way" during a moment of dumb _ ss!

On Excels does the trailer cord originate in an accessible junction box? Or is splicing existing cord best option?

I am tired of cleaning connections and spreading blades.

As I recall all those wires are made up in the area of the brake fluid container. I tried to squirrel a new cord thru the bottom (below the bed) and was unable to do so. And later upon visiting the factory I was able to see how tight the area is that the cord goes thru. They also use electrical ties on the cords for the 4 ft. or so behind the hitch. I think your best bet is to cut it at the hitch and set junction there.

Those wires you see are for the break away and light. They later attach the main cord you plug in to them and encase it all in that black plastic wire wrap and it's a done deal.

Russell,

I have used the EZ Connector Trailer Plug for over 7 years now and it is great, very easy to connect and un-connect. It has a strong magnet that holds it in place and has never released.
It always makes a connection and snaps into place, I just purchase a new trailer and moved it from my old unit to the new one.

I purchased the adaptor that converts it back to the standard 7 pin plug if someone ever needed to pull the trailer.

Costly but you will be happy.

Russell,
Add me to the users of the EZ-Connector--very pricey, and worth every penny. I had way too many faults with the old pin/blade connectors, and replaced everything at least once. Finally, bit the bullet and got the system. Have not had a fault/error anything with the IBC and trailer brakes since then. You will really like the cleanliness of how it holds to the receptable.
You, of course, need both male/female ends--I got the harnesses also. Took me a little while to do it all, but would never go back.
HOWEVER, think ahead to if you should need to be towed by someone else, or if you wanted to tow someone's trailer--can't hookup to the regular plugs, so you should have the adapters for normal 7-pole plugs. And, if you store the trailer end of the setup anywhere that most people would, it will pick up metal particles--so, you also need the cover cap for the trailer plug.
All in all, a very good system--just have to have had some many problems with the old style wiring that makes the cost justified.
Joe
