Fireplace

My RV came with the electric fireplace. For the past 4 weeks we have been home in TN and the RV has been dormant in its parking spot next to the house. 2 weeks ago I had a 50 amp service installed so that I could keep the RV plugged in on shore power to keep the batteries charge and not have to empty the refrigerator each time we come home. It also makes a nice guest house for visitors.

Today my wife went into the RV to start preparing it for a trip to the Outer Banks NC. It was 99 degrees inside and the electric fireplace was on. No one was in the RV to turn it on, in fact we unplugged the RV to let a friend use the 50 amp plug for his MH as they visited this past weekend. DW tried to turn the fireplace off went the remote but to no avail. I turn off the 50 amp breaker to shut it off. We then turn the breaker back on to run the AC to cool off the RV. 3 hrs later I went out to turn off the AC and, low and behold, the fireplace was back on. I do not understand what is causing this phenomenon. I now have turned the breaker just for the fireplace to the off position.

Any ideas?

Well, that's moderately disturbing.
We have a Dimplex DFR2551L that we've not had any issues with. Once we learned all of it's operations and icons found it can be "programmed" to work on the internal thermostat in an "Auto" heat mode. No doubt we'll keep an eye on it in the future.
I was thinking it plugs into a 120V receptacle behind the cabinetry somewhere.
I'm guessing your controller card went bad?

Thanks for the heads up.

Be well.

We have a fireplace in our coach that has a manual on/off switch. The power cord to the unit is plugged into a wall outlet behind the passenger seat.

You might want to check and see if it has a power cord that's plugged into an outlet somewhere and unplug it.

Also if it's controlled by a remote control unit make sure the batteries in the remote are good.

Best of luck resolving your problem and safe travels....

I talked to Ralph this morning and he referred me to Dimplex. Talked to Dimplex and they stated that a strong remote nearby, tv or garage, could turn the fireplace on and off thereby taking over the remote function of the fireplace. There is a switch in the lower panel that you can turn off the remote function so that doesn't happen. Once on the road you can turn the remote capability back by turn the switch back to remote (it has 2 "II" symbol) and pressing the on button of your remote and it will re-sync.

Thanks for sharing Reese. Weird, but I can understand it. Hope no other weird stuff happens. We love the OB....when it's not hurricane season!
