Anyone try to determine their fresh water tank capacity? The 2010 Excel brochure says 64 gallons. The 2011 brochure says 90 gallons. My 2011 was built really early in the 2011 model year, so I was curious to see if PI installed the 64 gallon tank or the 90 gallon tank. I know this was a waste of water, but I filled my fresh tank until it started coming out of the overflow tube underneath the coach. Then I got a 5 gallon bucket and started emptying the fresh tank one bucket at a time. All that came out was about 50 gallons! What's up with that?

Most manufacturers also include the water heater tank as part of the "fresh water Capacity". Also, you may need to tip the RV slightly toward the drain to get all of the water.
A footnote in the brochure should tell you about what is included in the water capacity.
Otherwise, take the VIN and call PI and ask.

Glenn,
I bet the ice man is right on this deal. And you got the smaller tank like I do on our rig. PI should be able to give you that info.
I have to tell you that it is refreshing to find someone that's as anal as I am on this stuff. You are a riot!!! I'm afraid I may lose my SKIA status if this keeps up. Keeps me on my toes!!
Having alot of fresh water on board is not important to us as we don't boondock much more than overnight. Having said that......we lost water all water in our winter park for 3 days 2 years ago with a major break. I sure was glad I had that high-half tank of water onboard!!! rockin'

I measured my tank as I did not believe the capacity was right. Height x weight x length gives you the cubic inches. Multiply the cubic inches by .004329. 1 Cubic Inch = 0.00432900433 Gallons [US, Fluid]
There are also websites that you just plug in the cubic inches and it will give you the gallons. Mine was right but they include the water heater in the capacity.

I just read the same information about the 90 gal tank on the 2011. The 90 gal tank is in all models from the 28 ft up. It does say 'includes the WH, so suspose the 10 gal from the hot water heater is included. I wonder if this is a misprint or the larger tank is included to allow more fresh water to be carried as there isn't a outside hose filler any longer ????
I can't remember what size tank my unit has...would say 64 sounds right. If I substact 6 gal for the WH and depending on how my unit is sitting, I guess I could be near 50 gals. The drain outlet on my unit is about 1/2" from the bottom of the tank and in the front part of the tank....so the tank might not drain completely unless the unit is nose down.
Boy, of all the things I've thought about doing to the Beast...measuring the water tank in 5 gal buckets isn't one of those.....
Nice water softener job.....

Our 64 gallons is actually 54 gallons with the remaining 10 gallons of freshwater setting in the 10 gallon hot water that acts like a 16 gallon hot water heater. David

As with most product changes, the holding tank and water tank capacity increases are a running change. Our intent is to increase the capacities of the tanks on as many models as possible.
Keep in mind that we must create our new brochure information in February, long before we even change model year. So there are some 2011 models with the 2010 holding tank sizes.
Another factor that sometimes changes things is that we don't actually make some of these design changes until we have an order to build a particular model. Then, occaisionally we discover that the new sizes won't fit into that model for an unforeseen reason, thus making the brochure incorrect (that we thought would work back in February).
The new water tank we are using in MOST models measures 15" x 29" x 43" (18,705cu in). This gives a volume capacity of 80.97 gallons. Add 10 gallons for the water heater and you have 90 gallons.
I don't have the holding tank measurements right now but the formula is similar.
We are doing our best to make changes and improvements you suggest.
Bryan
