Fresh water tank vent for a 2005 Limited

I was going to help a friend of ours sanitize their fresh water system, but couldn't seem to get much water into the fresh water pour port. It acts like the fresh water tank is not vented. There are two vents on the roof; probably one each for the black and gray water tanks. I checked under the rig, but could only see the fresh water drain. Anyone know how the fresh water tank is vented for this model?
- John

Might drop a phone call to the service department for Peterson Industries in Smith Center! They have helped me over the phone on a couple of issues and were spot on with quick solutions. 785-282-6827 is the number I have for them.

Kinda looking forward to stopping in there next month. Meet the crew and see the facilities where my Excel was born, and more than likely where my next one will come from.

John, the vent is a smaller hole to the side of the main fresh water feed plate on the side of the curbside. It's like a 3/8" hole right by the main water feed. It may be a plugged or pinched hose. A good test is to start adding water to the tank and you should feel air coming out the vent hole (water displacing air in the tank. The fresh water tank doesn't vent to the roof like the grey and black tanks do. If you need to service the hose I believe you can access it from the backside of the utility center on the curbside. You can get in there with a flashlite and even see some of the top of fresh water tank. HTHs...let us know how it goes. rockin'

Thanks Tom. You were, of course, correct. The vent opening is a small hole next to the pour port. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't even noticed it.
I was able to access the rear of the vent opening from the RV's basement, and removed the PVC vent tube. We then crammed the yellow wand thing normally used to blast out the crud from the hot water heater in the end of the tube and secured it with the small hose clamp on the vent tube. This allowed us to force shore water through the vent tube until we could here it filling the fresh water tank. I then took the hose adapter out and was able to easily blow air through the vent tube, so whatever had been blocking the vent was now in the fresh water tank. We then put the vent tube back on and were able to fill the fresh water tank without any problems. We then put the fill tube cap on and drained the fresh water tank. You could here the vent sucking air, so we decided you should always drain the tank with the fill cap on so the vent gets dried out, and any residual stuff that might be in there gets sucked out. I didn't see anything come out with the drain water, but the vent was definitely clear.
