Miss Jo bought one of those mattress "toppers" made of the knockoff temperpedic foam. Darn thing is quite heavy and may weigh 40 pounds or so. Now I have to hold up the bed for her everytime she wants more knitting yard or beading supplies.

In an earlier thread Bryan talked about changing from 75# to 100# gas struts to accomodate the king sized bed. Will 100# struts handle my additional 40 or 50# topper or do I need to get even larger struts? And last, where does one buy beefier struts?

OK now, no Viagra jokes.

Virgil, go to www.mobilemart.com and check out their inventory. They have the 100lb gas props in stock for under $20. These folks have a HUGE inventory of RV/Mobile Home parts, they fill most of the orders for Amazon.com! If you don't see what you need on the web give them a call at 918 682-3999, ask for Karen or Shiloah.

Good luck,
Lloyd

You sure we can't make jokes. I mean you did open the door for us.

I would say go to an auto parts store and look for struts for big 1 ton trucks or there are several places on the web where you can order some gas struts for your application. (Redwing1 posted before I did, that would be a good site.)

Oh and the Tuesday, Another "Work" Day post, I think you nailed it.

Rick, type in gas prop in the search box upper left corner of their home page and it will bring it up. If that doesn't work give them a call, really nice folks. I deal with them almost daily in my work, we have a lot of mobile homes here on the base (money pits) but better than tents!
Good luck.
Lloyd

Lloyd,
I called them and ordered 2 100lb "props" for $13.10 each plus shipping.
Thank you very much for your help.

Larry, thanks. Wording is critical.

Thank You. How about a source for lower strut brackets? I don't see any on their website.

Rick, I may be back in their store tomorrow, if so I'll ask about the brackets, perhaps they just call them something else!

Virg,

When you get the struts installed...please let us know how they work.

Our 75# struts have always been on the edge....barely will hold up the bed. Now that they are older...and it colder here in Portland...they be let the bed fall like a Bama jelly glass on the kitchen floor and Virg I know you know all about that...you southern boy you!

Jelly glasses were for orange juice. Mason and Ball quarts were for ice tea when I was living at home. Actually, I still enjoy drinking my tea from a mason jar. Seems to taste better.
