Today my wife bent one of the rods on the bed support strut. When she had dificulty lowering the bed, she just pushed harder on the mattress, so I need to fix the lower mounting block too

These struts aren't "special" are they?? They kinda look like the struts I used to have to replace all the time on the hatchback of my Dodge Daytona.

So you think I'm off to an Excel dealer?? or NAPA?? I'm in Sioux Falls right now, but could stop by and say hello to wrongway in Iowa on the way to Goshen next week.

DW learned something today, when something binds, don't force it!

You should be able to get a replacement strut from just about any auto parts store. Just take the broken one with you to match it up.

Doug,
I see your going to Goshen. If your in Elkhart, check out the RV Salvage Lot. Holy mackeral, this place is something else. Sorry I can't remember the name of the street it is on, but everyone in Elkhart knows about it. They have just about everything. Gas struts out the yeng-yang.(Can you say that? Just be careful as some items are take off salvage units and some items are purchased from manufacturer's warranty return pieces that are marked "no problem found". Just FYI. Even if you don't buy anything there, it is a place to see. I spent about 3 hrs. in the place, and bought $1.00 in goods. What fun! Tom

Thanks for the reminder, Tom.

I know where that place is. I used to work in the 'foam' business and used to spend 4-6 weeks a year in the Elkhart area.

There is another RV salvage yard off of route 44 between Joplin and Springfield MO.

I think I will try to go 'new' first

Doug,
What is the foam business? Like "foaming of the mouth?" I can relate to that!

I used to run that 1-44 between Joplin and Springfield, but that was before my RVing days and I don't remember that RV Salvage yard. I will have to check it out.

Have fun!
Tom

Doug,

I was in a auto parts store yesterday to get some wiper inserts for Tug....noticed a bunch of different length gas struts. May want to give that a try.

BTW...You guys weren't doing something the bed wasn't designed to do?

Doug,

So did you get the bed fixed yet? Where did you find the part? Tom

I bought a set of struts at a dealer in Sioux Falls. We haven't made the install yet (probably this weekend)

The parts guy in Sioux Falls, couldn't match up any of the numbers on the bent strut to stuff in his stock. I went to the web site of the folks that made the bad strut, and couldn't match anything with them either.

So I bought a set of struts that Holiday Rambler uses for their king size bed, and am hoping they work.

If they are the same length they should work just fine, unless they have a lighter compression factor, then they may not hold the bed up, but I'll bet that they work.

each one of the new ones is rated for 125#, and even though the one I bought is the same stroke as the old one, I decided to buy a pair.

Wrongway, we went home from sioux falls via sheboygan wi, otherwise we would have swung by and said "Hi"

Always welcome. If after hours you are welcome to just pull up the service department and plug in for the evening, just give us a heads up so that we do have them plugged up with units...

Tom, reread this one. I think you meant "don't have them plugged up". I like finding mistakes...maybe cause it makes feel better, 'cause I make so da** many myself!
