I know the title sounds kinda kinky don't it!

I'm one of this anal/retentive folks that lubes the shackles every 3 months. Never had a problem until today. One of the zerks wouldn't take grease. Took out the zerk and it is clear. Must be the shackle thru bolt messed up.

Anyone had this issue? Did you have to replace the thru bolt or ? Remember misery loves company! Tom

Hi tom I have this problem on one fitting. Same as you it is clear so maybe getting weight off the shackle will help. I will use the bottle jack soon to take some weight off and try to grease it. Have fun Larry Barnhart

I have the same problem. I tried jacking it up to take the weight off but that didn't help. I have to take my rig in for state inspection next month so I'll have the garage try their gun.

I have taken the weight off of that spring and sometimes it will take grease. And sometimes I have to take the bolt out and clean it. It is hollow with a hole in the middle of it's length. Then I take a drill bit and slightly enlarge the hole. You need plenty of blocks and two jacks.

Thanks to all for the replies. I'll try the taking the load off and try to grease then. I didn't know it was such a wide spead issue.

Thanks again, I will post what worked for me! Tom

Also when you take the weight off try turning the bolt. Sometimes the hole in the bolt gets into a position that it won't take any grease because it is basically plugged by position. I hope this makes sense.

On our way to Portland, stayed at a park in Kalmath, CA last nite. Got up early and went out and put the grease gun on the shackle that wouldn't take the grease. Greased without a glich. No resistence at all. Oh well, my recommendation at this point if you have the problem, just take the rig for a ride and try again. Frickin' Magic! Thanks for all the great advice you guys! Tom

virgil we spent the winter with Tom. It's really not a big deal. Taking the load off the wheel didn't help me because the shackle is on the trailair centr point suspension. Next week the bearings will be done so it will get another try. SORRY Tom You are ok . larry
