Grey tank leak
We have a 2014 Excel Winslow 34IKE and the grey tank has developed a leak. After removing the underneath barrier and soaked insulation we discovered a 12 inch crack that runs along the lip of the tank. When the grey tank is full, water pours out of this crack. Obviously replacing the tank will be a huge project, so I was wondering if there was a way to patch the crack instead of replacing the tank. Any advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Replacement is the only way to fix it. Patches will be temporary, at best.

I agree with Doc. You've more than like ran down the road with a full or near full tank of grey water. The black and grey tank are a "weak link" in the Excel trailer. The grey tank is larger and heavier than the black and usually the first to go. There's lots of info on this issue in this forum. Sorry for your issue. Here's one I found.....

I might add at this point that the problem with the holding tanks (excluding fresh water tank) on Excels are two fold in my opinion. A weak mounting design and also tank that is not robust enough to carry liquids while traveling with the RV.
Adding heavier duty tank retaining straps with a new tank will help support the new tank but will not allow you to overfill or travel with fairly full tanks when traveling without subsequent tank failure. Again, this is my opinion and experience of 13 years of FTing in 3 Excel coaches. Just sayin'....bottom line....don't travel with more than a 1/4 of tank of liquid in the grey and black tank in an Excel. Can I get a witness????

I added heavy duty external straps screwed to the frame to my Excel. I still empty the grey and black tanks before towing. The holding tank design is the weak link on Excels.

So Rockin is the fresh water tank setup better? Can that take some amount and travel?

Yep. Fresh water is in a enclosed cage made from angle iron and appears to be a better grade of tank. You carry as much water as you want in that tank, but remember when full it weighs almost 500 lbs. that you carry around with ya, so choose wisely. Some elect to not carry any water and some carry lots. We always carried between 1/4 and 1/2 tank when traveling. When parked about 1/2 tank. Also when parked for a while we used the water up out of tank with the pump after 30 days of setting. That way we exercised the pump and always had drinkable water if needed. Also have water if the park water was ever down.

We tow with at least 1/2 tank of fresh water. If headed to a dry camping spot I fill it up before departure. No problems or issues. Little or no impact on fuel economy.
