We have posted a service bulletin on our website to provide you with some preventative maintenance to help insure your slide outs won't have water leaks.
You can access this service bulletin at www.excelrvs.com. It is under the "Support & Resources" fly-out.
Peterson Industries will send you 2 tubes of silicone caulk at no charge to perform this maintenance. Just call Vicki at 800-368-3759.
Thanks for your support
Bryan

Bryan,
One other question. Regarding the service bulletin on this subject, it refers to the lower slide trim molding needing to be caulked which I understand. Does the top trim molding need to cauked as well on the bottom side? When we had our '05 unit floors rebuilt at your service center, two different techs worked on it. On one side the upper moldings were caulked on the bottom edge and on the opposite side slide that same molding was left uncaulked. Which way is correct? Please explain your answer. Thanks! rockin'

Bryan,
Can I use eternabond tape instead of the caulk? I was also going to use it on the metal edge that joins the slide out wall onto the fiberglass.
Thanks,
The Squirrel

Bryan,
The SB states, "We have since redesigned our slide-out floors to eliminate the sides sitting on bottom lip of floor. The sides now sit on top of the floor with the fiberglass lip hanging down 1 ¼”. This should eliminate the possibility of water running over the bottom trim and into the floor."
It appears that my 2011 model has this new design, so I should have to worry about performing the procedure outlined in the bulletin. Is that correct? I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking the obvious.
Thanks!

Squirrel,
I know I'm not Bryan, but I don't think the eternabond tape would work down there as it would probably wrinkle up on the floor of the slide as the slide would move in and out on the carpet. Just my thoughts. rockin'

Tom - We have had 2 schools of thought on caulking the underside of the trim. One is that it's a good idea, then we thought it might not let any water out should it penetrate from the top of the trim. I think I fall on the side that caulking is a good thing and I would recommend caulking the underside of all trim.
Squirrel - Eternabond is a good thing..... providing it's installed correctly (i.e. the surface cleaned properly and the tape is layed flat). In that location though, I believe it's going to be quite unsightly, and the s/o trim might not be the best application for it. Caulking should work fine.
Glenn - All units built after 2/1/2009 have been built the new way and to this date we have not seen a single one back. With that being said, it is recommended that you check all your caulking regularly as part of your routine maintenance.
Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan, Thanks for the response!
Prior to putting the tape on I will take a look and see how it looks. I sure don't want to be seen driving a band aid down the street. LOL LOL

Tom,
No I wasn't going to put it on the bottom. I have about a 1/2 inch lip between the metal strip and the bottom of the floor. The tape will help in stopping the white caulk from depositing on the carpet inside. It continues to ooze out. I like the tape idea. Just need to make sure it looks good when I get finished. Thanks for the input.

Having a 2001 model year...I know the makeup of my unit... I know that the trim is different and no longer has the vinyl insert like mine and has a solid piece trim.
I can also visualize how the walls sit on the floor as compared to mine. With the comment that the 'fiberglass' lip hangs down 1 1/4" below the floor....is this the exterior fiberglass panel that makes up the wall. Meaning the fiberglass gelcoat and the ply backer that extends beyond the wall ? Is the trim at the bottom one that sits flush or has the 'J' or 'L' at the bottom and surrounds underneath?
If someone could post a few photos of the lower section of the slide from the exterior and from underneath looking out....that would help give a visual.
Thanks

Squirrel,
You may want to revisit the service bulletin....it states if you have more than 1/8" of floor showing below the molding.....you should relocate the molding.
All my slide floor ends have right at 1/8" or maybe slightly less...so I should be able to run a small bead of caulk and be OK. rockin'

Sounds like this does not apply to us SKIA. Shucks, one less freebie.
Or you could have kept that antique that you owned.

Yes it was after. Something like last of April or first of May.
I think the floor plan came out in the 2009 model year.
Just went out check and that is the way it is done.
