Hi all,
I think we are going to get and Aerobed to use on the floor for guests (actually my husband and self while my parents have the bedroom). I read in the 10 min tech book an idea for taking the insides out of the sleep sofa and using the space for storage. As there is NEVER enough storage, it sounds like a great idea....has anyone done this??

No, but I've been thinking about it, since we'll never have anyone staying overnight with us.
You'd have to fabricate some type of box for the cushions to sit on...at least on our couch, the cushions sit right on top of the pull-out bed mechanism. I'm thinking of perhaps 3 or 4 light-weight boxes with hinged tops.
Any other ideas?

Hi Linda!
We are thinking to use plywood and make a top for the cushions to sit on....then oh for the storage! We will put an Aerobed blow up in there for extra sleeping, but I'm already thinking of all the other things we will put inside!

Taking out the bed mechanism will give a lot of storage room. I'm wondering tho, is there a limit to how much weight you should carry in a slide out? Are you already filling up the lawn chair storage area? How about the overhead cabinets? You could possibly double the weight you would normally carry. Slide outs tend to give a fair amount of trouble already, without adding to the weight. Just a thought....

Not really an answer to your question...but I'm am amazed of how many blankets and quilts we comfortably store on the mattress. We just double them and fold them up with the mattress. One set of sheets, 1 quilt, and 2 blankets. No problem. Seems like we could put more if we needed. rockin'

For us, I was thinking about storing light-weight items, like bulky down comforters and the like, so there wouldn't be much weight stored under the sofa. In fact, we'd probably save quite a bit of weight by taking out the bed assembly, which I'm sure is heavy.

we had a 2004 fle35 and i did modify the sofa. this unit had the "L" sofa so i first removed the corner unit and made it a straight sofa. next i removed the hid a bed and put 2x2 framing and plywood in lieu of the hide a bed. put finger holes in the plywood so they could be lifted out. when complete we had three plywood lift out panels and lots of storage.

thanks..the plywood cover is pretty much our plan. Thanks also for the reminder about the weight...I was already envisioning all my baking supplies. But I think I'll switch to linens and empty space. Sure want to be safe and we still have so much to learn!
