Hi All,
We are about to go fulltime on Dec 29 starting with a trip to SC for repairs. My question is can you use the heat with sides closed? We are making a bee line from NY to Kansas (1550 mi.) staying overnite in FlyingJs where slides out is a no no. Do you see any problems using the heat on?
George

On our model, the two heat vents in the living area are covered when the slides are in. The only ones open are the two upstairs...one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom.

I don't imagine it would hurt anything to keep the heat on...you probably won't get much heat in the living area, though, other than what might seep out from underneath the closed slides.

Main issue I would be concerned with is if the heat ducts are obstructed by the slides when they are in. On our unit, a 33RLE, the main slide would cover the duct outlets (2) in the living area, kitchen, bath and bedroom are not obstructed with everything in. If my slide is out about 1 foot, I would be ok in that area also.

The heater and t-stat, to control the output of heat, would function the same with the slides in or out. My concern with be if any of the heat duct outlets are obstructed for the length of time you would need.

Do you know if you would have any of the ducts covers by a slide?

George, agree with Linda. We've run the heater in our MKO with the slides in without a problem. Initially, I was concerned about the floor registers being covered up by the large slide-out. I now believe with the two heat registers upstairs unobstructed, and the one by the entry door, there is no harm to the heater. The slide-out floor is slightly above the floor and heated air can make it's way into the coach.

I think ExcelRVGuy posted awhile back that it is OK to run the furnace with the slides in. I hope my memory is correct.

RE: Leaving the heat on. I checked with PI 3 years ago and have left it on where we leave the trailer to come back for the holidays (2 + months) have done this for three years and no problems. Just left the 2008 trailer the same way. Steve Ellenbuger was the one that said no problem and it would just distribute more heat through the other vents.
