We just came back from our first longer trip and the bugs are terrible. John was out washing them but they were not coming off very easily. How do you get them off without damaging the gel coat? We were just using soap and water with elbow grease - any other ideas?

I use a car wash I get at the auto parts stores and Walmart. It is called ICE. 3 ounces per gallon of water. Bugs just come right off and it will rinse clean and shinny.

Janie,

There are about a million posts on this topic. I use a swifter mop and 2 Bounce fabric softener sheets on the head of the swifter. Wet the front cap good and then the swifter head. Simply rub the front cap with the swifter. If you have a whole bunch of bugs or it's real hot and sunny just do just half the cap at a time, going over it twice. Rinse with a sprayer head on your hose. The chemical in the softener sheets will be a milky color and rinses easily and won't harm the finish. Wipes the bug off like magic.

Remember the quicker you get those bugs off the easiler they come off. In traveling I wash the bugs daily, but then again....I tend to be just a wee bit anal about things!!!

BTW, used softener sheets work OK, but new sheets are better. Happy travels. rockin'

I used Bounce and a little Elbow grease back in the days of pulling with a LGT. Since getting the HDT, I hardly ever need to clean the bugs now.

Still, you don't have to do much elbow grease if you let the chemical in the Bounce do its thing. Your "elbow grease" might be the same as mine....alot of yappin' in the jaw!!! rockinblabber

After you get it clean wax it with Carnuba wax it makes the clean up a little easier. I always pre-soak with water and then wash.

It's a little late for your situation, but the next time apply Rejex prior to leaving on a trip and then just wipe the bugs off with a wet sponge when your travels are over. Nothing to it.

We also have used softner sheets for years, as they work very well. As stated, keeping the front waxed makes them come off better.

For me, I've been using Thetford's " Bug Buster " for years. Spray it on, wait 1 minute then hose it off. I usually follow with ArmorAll wash and wax to make sure I get everything off.

I use a product called Gel-Gloss liquid, sold at RV stores, Camping World....There is a heavy-duty formula too. It's a white jug with pink lettering. It is a clwaner and a wax. My parent went to Alaska, returning with half the bugs from the state on their MH nose. Gel-Gloss took them off 100%. Been using it since our first trail in 99'.

I use Turtle Wax bug and tar remover. Spray on, let set a few minutes, and wipe off.
