DW and I are preparing for a summer trip to Alaska. And trying to take steps to protect our truck and trailer from road damage, particularly gravel.
The lowest point on our trailer is the Pivot-Ez.

Can anyone suggest how to protect the pipe, bracket, and hanger from damage? No easy way to hang a cloth from the underside.
In the event of serious damage, I can see how to remove it. But prevention is the best form of flattery.
Thanks.

Bruce,
We travelled to Alaska last summer by way of Dawson City and the Top of World Hwy. Also did 80 miles of gravel on the Dempster Hwy and drove across the Denali Hwy, plus various construction zones. All this towing our home. I took no precautions to protect the Pivot-EZ and the only damage incurred was stone damage/dings to the screw-on cover. Other than that there was no damage to this unit.
Enjoy the trip. It's an awesome drive. Really watch the speed and don't let the tailgaters intimidate you into more speed than is safe. Those frost heaves come up in a hurry! I know - learned the hard way.

Bruce,
I agree with Jim.......what the heck is that "rust" looking strip in the photo?
Hope that's not an incident of your E-Z Pivot getting sick and upchucking!!!
Slow, slow, slow to avoid damage to your rig. Have fun and enjoy! rockin'

And, remember when meeting oncoming vehicles. The rocks don't hit you at the speed they are going, the hit you at the speed you are going.

I have no ideal what the Beast did before me...might have been used more, had an interesting life and traveled a few gravel roads someplace. Here are a few pic of the Pivot-EZ before parts were replaced and during upgrades.
The cap can be replace for under $25.00 but the possible damage to the ABS piping might be a little harder to repair on the road if one of the rocks founds its mark. The lower front of the Beast has more than a few hits on it also. That area I can see and feel.
How to protect the Pivot-EZ from damage...don't know without taking it off and putting a cap on the end of the pipe at the flex. Putting a temp shield on the ABS pipe might help with the gravel dings and might be a good thing to do anyway. The front of the unit would be of concern to me also....but I'm already dinged.

Bruce, Protection..hmmmm...... I wonder if they make latex that huge? You cold always wrap it with plastic and tape that on or do as workshop suggested remove it for your journey.

Workshop sent me a separate PM with this simple solution. I like it cause it's inexpensive, and protects both the cap and the hanger.
Workshop wins the prize! Again, as usual.
Here is a photo of a 2 gal nursery pot I placed on the end of my Pivot-EZ to see if it would fit. Not a bad size, the 1 gal to small. With a bungee cord or other fastener...would protect the cap from gravel. A cut down bleach container would be white and might fit also. But for $25. a new cap might work when you get back.

Two years ago, my fancy Reel EZ water hose leaked water down into the battery compartment. Battery water emerged and ran down the siding, permanently staining an otherwise pristine trailer.
No worries tho. I have since done worse.

I knew you'd have a good answer!!! I would have made a post in "best practices" touting a new way of refilling the water in your battery from a shore water faucet!!!!
That's about the best answer for a big ol' skid mark!!! Enough of my silliness for now!! rockin'

Boy, can I relate to this. Last year ours leaked on the the hydraulic leg controller for the leveling legs. Boy, did that ever start a domino effect! We've re-tightened that fitting and wrapped one of those super soaker towels around it.

We also had the Reel EZ water hose leak onto the hydraulic leg control unit about a month ago. Luckily we were home at the time and corrected matters after the first jolt and before we had a self-unleveling experience. We dried everything out, tightened connections and added the issue to the watch and worry list.
