Anyone have a 2nd A/C (in bedroom) installed after the fact? With the addition of our exterior window shades, the single A/C has done well to keep to house cool enough with outside temps up to near 100. However, we are contemplating a move to Gilbert, AZ (Phoenix area) due to a job relocation. I'm concerned that the single A/C won't be able to keep up when it gets into the 100+teens! I have a padded ceiling and the wooden frame around the vent in the bedroom, with the sliding hatch. That would have to be removed. The interior portion of the new A/C will cover a portion of the ceiling where the frame is removed. But it won't cover the part that extends towards the head of the bed. After removing the wooden frame, there will be indentations and screw holes in the padded ceiling, which will be unsightly. How did you address this issue?

We had SC install a second AC. We did nothing about the holes nor indentions. Just didn't look that bad.

For the last several years we haven't been putting screws in the holes extended to the left of the vent. They are just plugged for looks only. The indention in the padded ceiling should disappear with time. The only screws are around the vent only.

Thanks, Bryan. That's great forward thinking.

Bryan is right, the indentions all but disappeared. I actually laid down on the bed and looked up at our second AC installation. I mean like 95% gone and we only have two screw holes showing and honestly, I never see them. Now you don't even have to worry about them.

I only use my bed for two things. Both with my eyes closed, so I don't see the ceiling.

Sleeping.

And napping.

What?

I had a heat pump put in the bedroom with the same frame and vent you have and you can tell it was ever there. You will be glad you have second air at 100 plus. I have shades on my windows to and at 100 plus you need the second air to cool it on down at night. The heat pump is a great way to go and it don't cost that much more besides we live full time in ours an what if you had just one air go out and can't get it fixed fast.

I met to say you can't tell it was ever there on the vent an wood frame. Besides the wiring and ductwork is already there so no big deal to install.

Virg.......the old 05 models they were still screwed the frame into the padded ceiling.....

Bruce......you are a mess....are you cuttin' in on my BS??? Good one!

Glenn, go for it.....get a 13.5 BTU low profile....it'll do you a great job for Gilbert's temps. We know alot about that area.....the beer joints for sure!!! Just give us a call!

Looks like I have 2 choices:

1. Dometic Penquin Low Profile
2. Coleman Polar Mach Low Profile

Both come in 13,500 BTU versions. Any recommendations?

BTW, when I open this thread, or post a reply, I get a pop up asking me to log on to members.parksierra.net. What's up with that?

I'm sure both are great, but I would go with the Polar Mach since that's what you've got in the rig already except it's 15,000 BTU

I've had Coleman Mach in all my rigs and have been very happy with their performance. The "Polar" Mach has outstanding air flow volume and nice and cold, much better then than the old Coleman Mach.

Just my opinion! rockin'

PS I get the same message......parksierra........don't know.......I just close it....
