Thanks all for your advice. You have convinced me to proceed cautiously. With little time left before hitting the road again for four months, for Alaska , I've decided to wait till I return to my home base in October before drilling holes in the outside wall.

I'll try to fish the wire over to the stop light. However, I was wrong about the wiring and Willey was right. One wire leads to Stop and Turn. Still, no big deal if the middle light acts as a turn signal for one direction.

If I can't catch the wire, I'll drop it straight down and connect it to the additional trailer wiring.

One clarification for Chuck
From the picture it looked like one stop light and a back up light. OOOpps!

The picture only shows the inner of the two stop lights.

I'll update the post in the Fall when I get to this. In the mean time, "Move along now. Nothing to see here."

Bruce I like you idea and you should place it Product Improvement Suggestions. My self I would make a bracket out of tubular steel and place it in the receiver for the add on light. Now with a Limited kneel at the rear left tail lights and underneath you will find four wire nuts. These are there since your trailer is prewired for a connection if you ever pulled a trailer behind your rig. I would use those and not tap into my existing tail lights. On both of my Limiteds I have installed a plug for trailer lights.

Thanks BIIR. Yeah, I figure I'll likely run the wire straight down and out, then connect it the trailer wiring. Do you know if the space behind the bumper is open, so I can drill a hole in the bottom and see the wire?

I prefer to mount the light as high as I can for visibility. And I use the boat hitch occasionally for my carrier.

Maybe I'll post this in the Best Practices. When/if I complete this project.

Bruce, there are four wires stubbed off with wire nuts on the left hand side of the belly for an additional harness. They are visible and easily accessible.

Yeah. But I need to run the wire down the wall and thru the bumper to hit that cabling. I can't tell from tapping if I'll hit any structures in that bumper.

Knowing that our rear caps are slighly different...Here is a picture of the center part of my bumper. I cut a section out so a receiver hitch could be installed. This picture was taken when I was installing the two additional lights on the bumper and needed to 'fish' wires from the original lights to the bumber area.

The black fabric that covers the bottom of the floor, wraps up about 4-6 inches. There it changes to a clear plastic that seals the insulation and covers/separates the wall from the outside. The rear cap covers it. If I reach up I can feel the bottom of the wall studs that supports the panel on the inside and can run a tape up 'bout 18 inches before bumping something and not pushing further.

I was able to 'fish' a tape from the lights to the center of the bumper area. Don't know what would be in that area that would keep a 'fish' from going up/down. When probing into areas I don't want to get stuck in and get 'hooked' I will either use electrical tape on the end of the 'fish' hook to provide a smooth surface, cut the hook off and rebend later or use one of the tapes without the hook tht has a flat end. That way it can be removed without catching anything and once it gets to where I want it to go....tape the wires or string to the tape and pull it through.

Since I know you will never be in the area....if your ever down this way....I'll install it for you.
