Well, this winter is already making me anxious for the day when we are full time. We live in the middle of Iowa and are experiencing the worst blizzard in 30 years. On the good side we get a day off work and our power is still on. I do look forward to the day when we are just reading about the blizzard and calling the kids to see how they are doing. So to all those in the warmer climate enjoy the day and I'll read a good book and watch the snow and wind out my window.

Yep, this is what they're telling us here in Iowa City:

CR police urge motorists to stay home

The Cedar Rapids Police Department is strongly urging motorists to stay off of Interstate 380 between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, both north and south bound.

The Department of Transportation’s efforts are being undermined by the blowing snow, and the interstate quickly covers after being plowed. Because of this, many cars, trucks, SUVs and semis are sliding into the ditch. This requires law enforcement to drive to their location, make sure occupants are not hurt and then transport them to safety. These vehicles will be left in the ditch and will not be towed until it can be done safely which could be a few days.

"Oh, the weather outside is frightful..."

Been getting slightly below zero here nights in eastern Oregon - below 10 degrees all day - sure hope my winterizing is sufficient in both our MH and 5th wheel!

I have drained the tanks, heater and fresh water, as well as black and gray tanks, and blew out the water lines with air - filled P-traps with RV antifreeze - hope that gets the job done...

Inside of the MH was down to 12 degrees this morning - have heat cubes running on low setting inside both the MH and 5er - but was still cold enough that there was a thin layer if ice on the INSIDE aluminum door frame in the 5er...

I have not been home for a winter for 15 years and honestly I am enjoying it and I work outside all day every day. I am north of Sioux City and we must be on the edge of the storm. Maybe 8 inches of snow. I am still living in my Excel and it was 6 degrees last night with 30 mile an hour winds so wind chill was 18 below. I have the thermostat on 70 degrees and I am very comfortable. Last night the furnace was running 18 minutes and would stop for five and run again. I am using ½ tank of propane a day to heat right now and it is $1 a pound here in Sheldon, two tanks plus tax is $64. When I moved up Saturday from La Porte City I happened to bump the thermostat and it was on 90 degrees for the six hour journey so it was real nice and toasty when I set up. I am setting in the dealers lot RV Central so I am not to concerned, if I would have problems I’ll just pull into the shop. I am going to get out of the rig this Saturday and put it in storage until the end of February or first of March or until the temps are bearable....

Last summer a disgruntled camper gave me one of these and don’t waste your money on them. They might be ok in 30 plus temperatures but in well below freezing they do not work at all.

Glad to see you Iowa folks finally got the weather that left here. Nice level 8" of snow yesterday then the wind decide to blow. Got ugly last night. -4 this morning with wind chill around -30. Makes things not so nice. Wind drop this morning and a high of 12* today. Not so cold tonight.

Glad I'm in the sticks and bricks for now.

We have the same mess in SE Minn, 17.3 inches of snow in Winona MN and a wild wind all day long. Now well below zero tonight and more snow to clear again tomorrow morning before work. Sad to say we have a few more years until retirement, then we are out of here and vow never to spend another winter in Mn as long as we live. Snowbirds enjoy, we'll see you soon.

14 inches here in Appleton, WI. Winds and wind chill tonight, well just darn cold. Think they said a low of 3 degrees and not sure what the wind chill will be. Oh, to be south.

Our son is in Iowa City finishing up his final graduate projects for this semester while his wife is home from substitute teaching today. In less than three weeks they are supposed to be here in SW FL with us for a couple of weeks. I guess I will quit complaining about repairing water leaks and replacing weak circuit breakers in this 82 deg here here at the resort in N. Ft Myers! The only trouble is I can only get a farmer tan on this job while Sheila is stuck working a registration in the air conditioned office, LOL!
