Anyone have any success in repairing kitchen chairs that come loose at the joints from normal wear and tear? The joints simply start working loose. We have rotated the chairs to distribute wear and tear, so now we have evenly wobbly chairs! These aren't getting better. Granted, we have almost 3 years of FTing, but we do take good care of them. I asked the plant worker folks at PI what they recommend when we were there and the concensous was to "replace" them. Anyone else have any ideas or success in repairing them? Thanks.

Tom,

I have used "Gorilla Glue" on some old chairs before. If you can get them apart first so you can get it applied in the joint.
Of course, you know how good I am at fixing things.

Maybe if you didn't tip back in the chairs when you are enjoying the refreshments, this might not happen.

Now-now Red.....Oh yeah, that's right...you've seen me in action!! Too late, the chairs are already loose!

I'm afraid to try to disassemble the joints, as the folks at PI say they have "brads" inside the joints! I've pried on the joints and don't have enough guts to force anything. Anyone?

Tom,
I used this product and had good success with it in my shop. Its called Chair Doctor. You inject a milky liquid glue into the joint and let it dry, Joints are as good new. Also you can drill the smallest of holes to inject it Here's the link

George,
Thanks, I will give it a try. Looks like we have a Woodcraft store real close to us! I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Tom,

This product will work. My Dad's antique furniture restoration business has been using this method for years. They also use a product called ZAP which does the same thing. It's a type of very thin viscosity super glue.

I have used a product called Chair Tight and only found it at Ace Hardware. It works in seconds and lasts years but is about $10.00 an ounce, however that is normally enough to do 4 chairs.

Thanks Doyle,

I have already bought the Chair Doctor at Woodcraft. We'll see how it does!

Thanks again,
Tom

I didn't know if I was overwhelming everyone with all my "fixes", so was reluctant to send too much stuff. Since Chief requested it...here it is, hopefully in a condensed version!

As promised, here some poop on revamping my kitchen chairs. One had gotten very loose and wobbly. I tried to do the reglue procedure that all were talking about on the website. Couldn't really get to the core of where the glue was needed. So decided to completely disassemble, clean, glue and add some addtional reinforcement. As you can see, I put the corner brackets (about $6.00 per chair- HD). I feel like this is gonna be a good fix. The brackets are on the underside, so don't show unless you really check them out. I'm thinking about just using the brackets on other chairs that are not real loose yet, as the reglueing is quite labor intensive. The chairs are now nice and sturdy. I believe they are much more robust than original. Ready to do more partying down! Here's a couple of pix. Tom
