I see that Excel is offering a Motorcycle carrier as an option. I think that is great.
Can anyone tell me what is the frames on these 5ers. C-Channel, Box Tube Steel, I-Beams and the size, do they beef up the frame when they put a cycle carrier on? I don't have a dealer close by or I would go and look for myself.
Also is anyone carrying a 600 to 700 pound bike on the back and if so how is that effecting the pin weight.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Check out the video links in the topics above. There is one on the frames that should answer all your questions.

Dear Jim & Bertie

Excel 5th wheels are built on a 10" x 2" box tube frame. Peterson Industries is the only 5th wheel manufacturer who has a frame strong enough to be endorsed by "Hydralift", the manufacturer of the motorcycle lift. If you go to http://excelrvs.com/video_downloads.htm and click on the "Our Frames" you can see how our frames are manufactured.

As for the effect of weight, we carry around 2800# pin weight on most units. Since the axles are approximately 2/3 of the way back, putting your motorcycle on the back will decrease the pin weight by about 500-600 pounds according to our testing. Even though you fall out of the "optimum" weight-to-pin ratio, you are still quite safe pulling the fifth wheel. Most people tow full of fresh water, and with quite a bit of cargo in their basement storage areas anyway, so both of those factors also bring your pin wieght right back up.

I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for reading our forum

Bryan Tillett

Thanks Bryan for the info. We will be going up to Tri-Am RV in Ocla Fl. in the near future to look at your product a little closer. So far I like what I see.

Jim and Bertie,
It sounds like you are in Florida now but I see your "location" is Cape May. We are in Pennsylvania and have the lift on our 36RDO so if you come through this area and want to see how the lift works, come by and see it.

Linda
