Movement in rear of my Excel
Attachment 173404I have some kind of movement going on both sides rear that caulk won't hold. Anyone else having this? Thinking of putting some kind of expansion material over it Attachment 173403 similar to the EPDM (or whatever it is) only I don't like the black adhesive backing. Thoughts?

Are you referring to movement in the end cap? Since we can't see the pic, is the movement in the lower part of the end cap on each side, if that's where its at?

Gary, Wonder how I guessed all that? On the bottom where the end cap curves under is a large lag like screw that goes through the molding for the screw trim, the end cap and into a steel frame member. These are something #14 x 2" hex screws on my rig. I have one that is loose right now and the caulking around the molding trim near the bottom parted with the side wall. It's on my fix list after breakfast today.
Post back on your results.
Take care.

Fred, when you fix it would you take pix and post? Thanks. I've not had that issue on any of my Excels. I do get minor flex in the front cap area and roof area about 1/4 of the way down the rig. Roof side molding screws work loose just a little bit when traveling and some very minor movement of caulking. Sometimes I have to recaulk some of it.

Gary here's a few images. There's a steel plate just above and forward of the trim molding. That's what I screwed the trim and end cap into with a 314 x 1 1/14" self taping screw. That takes it up really tight.
Hope this might help some.
Opps, need to view this from the right side, unless the 5th is standing on its end.

I posted another pic under new heading. Mine is actually on the side where there is about a 1/2" gap between the exterior sidewall and the end cap. Mine has some kind of wrapped wood backing behind it about
1 1/2 inches thick. I put a couple of 2" lag screws in the trim but couldn't close the gap.

I'd be looking for some possible water leak above that area. Any indication of movement on the inside. Perhaps run a long straight edge on the interior walls in that area.
