Just a heads up for those of you traveling through Nebraska on I-80:
Journal Star Article
and
North Platte Bulletin Article
This could be happening in other areas of the country, too, so beware.

LindaH,
Believe me, I sure don't like what has been going on at these stations either.
Needless to say, I quit buying fuel there long ago.
We have a business near these stations and all I can say is "please stop in and see us, we are not all like some"

You're absolutely right, redcow. I hope people will read these articles in their entirety, because they clearly state that the Shell station in North Platte has a sign out that says "All pumps, $x.xx". So not *all* gas stations in North Platte are doing this.
I think it behooves all of us to compare the prices listed on the signs to those on the pumps *before* we start pumping. And if a gas station is engaged in these deceptive practices, that we take our business elsewhere -- AND let the station know WHY we're going elsewhere. If enough people complain, maybe they'll stop doing this.

I got annoyed at a Flying J near Davenport Iowa yesterday. The web site, and signs said something like 2.78 for diesel. But that was at the truck pumps. The RV pumps were something like 2.89
Made me mad, but what you gonna do?? I needed fuel, and at truck centers I prefer to leave the truck islands free for the professional drivers to use. ( I do like how the larger nozzles fill me up quicker though!!)

D and J, that situation is not uncommon across the U.S.
The price advertised at the major truck stops like Flying J, Love's, etc., is the price for the commercial truck pumps. Sometimes the price the truckers pay -- like in Iowa and Oregon -- is less than for *car* diesel. Sometimes -- like in Arizona -- the truckers pay more ($.08 per gallon more, in fact).
The Flying J in Erhenberg, AZ, just before you cross the border into CA shows both the commercial diesel price and the consumer's diesel price. It's one of the few truck stops I've seen do that.
ON EDIT: Even if you had filled up at the truck pumps, because you're not a commercial vehicle, you would have paid the higher consumer price (just like we pay the lower consumer price in Arizona if we fill up at the truck pumps).

Well, There it is. Business practices such as this being tolerated in the Heartland. I'd say the heart is sick and corrupt in light of how much we are being ripped off by the big companies anyway. Avoid N. Platte at all costs and go to places where folks are honest. If their BBB is tolerating this behavior then it must spill over into other businesses no matter what they say.
