I had a Never Lube Drum Brake Hub that was over heating, 1st noticed when we stopped for a break and I almost burnt my hand on the hub. Next stop I shot it with my IR temp Gun and was at 194 degrees, we had about 700 miles to home to make sure every thing was OK I stopped an RV dealer and had him pull the wheel and hub, looked OK so we pressed on and kept checking the hub and when we got home it was up to 240. Temp on the tire bead was about 190 and the side wall for the tire was 145, wonder if f the tire is hurt??

Dexter is sending me a new hub and bearing assy under warranty. The trailer is 3 years old and has about 30,000 mikes,
Dexter said that the high in temp for the hub should be 160 to 180 and the grease should not melt out until 450

Dan,

That is quite uncommon...however any component can fail.......thanks for the update.
Are you doing the job yourself? I have the external snap ring pliers and the big ass socket for the spindle nut (I think 1-7/16"). Nut torques to 165 lbs. Let me know if you need any assistance. Us Texans gotta stick together!!! Git R Dun Hugs to Mary!

Anyone out there have a Nev R Lube with disk brake failure let me know in an emergency. I have one on hand at all times.

On my old '05 Excel rig and the temps would run 150*F on a warm day.........so I doubt that your temps would be out of line. Do you have disk or drum brakes? Do you got the tools to do the job? My TX buddy "the squirrel" would bring the beer!!! rockin'

Tom, he passed by here and I told him to keep going!!! He did call but the Squirrel said it was to hot to stop here. It was a cool 102 and even for a Squirrel it was to hot to be outside. It is hard as heck to keep beer warm these days. Even to hot to eat nuts. I did offer some help as he passed, but said he couldn't get his rig in here. To many trees and squirrels. LOL This squirrel is heading out for Ruidosa, Santa Fe Chama and then to South Fork for a month. That ought to cool those Never Lube's down.

Thanks for the feedback! This just shows you how important those temp checks on tires and hubs anytime we come to a stopping point.

Especially on older coaches! And speaking of "older" things.......don't forget to check your Tug for the same thing. Better safe than sorry. rockin'

I carry mine in the driver's door panel pocket all the time. Just FYI, the tire manufacturers want the temp checked at the 2nd tread from the outside.....who's anal now???!!! rockin'

We had tire blow on the Wheel that had the over heating hub this morning, was warm in the 90s and driving around 62. Did not cause any significant damage to the trailer, heard the pop a saw piece of the tread go flying , found good place to change the tire and found new tire at a reasonable price Wichita Falls, TX. Tire was around 3 1/2 years old. The tread came off in chunks, when got stopped all do the tread was gone. The tire dealers is going to send it to Good Year for evaluation.

All is well for now

Dan

Dan, glad not much other damage to trailer than the tire itself. What I can't believe it the tire dealer let you out of there without selling you at least the other tire on that side!!!! When the one tire fails........it overloads the non failed tire and weakens it. So it possible and probable that that 3.5 yr. old tire is a time bomb. I AM assuming you're talking about 614 Goodyear tires. Aren't you? At that age I would be thinking about a fresh set for my comfort. rockin'

Tom I am sure the blow out did put some stress on the same side tire. We did not go very far with one tire. Yes they are GY 614 and will replace the other 3 when we get home from Col before we head for Organ for the Excel NW Tour in Sept.
