We found out some very disappointing information today when we called the factory to set up a tour.
We will be attending the LOW Conference in Des Moines, Iowa from 8/23-8/26. Since we'll be about 6 1/2 hours from Smith Center we thought that this would be a great time to tour the Excel plant upon completion of LOW.
We originally called back in June, but we were told to "just call about a week in advance" to set up a day to tour.
Well, we found out today that during the last week in August the factory will be closed to public tours. Excel dealers will be in Smith Center that week, so the factory is closed to the public.
Just a heads up for anyone desiring to tour during that week.

In old military jargon, I believe that's SOP for their dealer meet/greet and show/tell annual event. The tour is well worth the trip and the chance to place faces with names when you're dealing with the Smith Center folks. Coincidence, my SIL is also named "Karen Fischer".

Yes, the lady who answered the phone indicated that it is an annual event, but they usually hold it in October. We were disappointed because we were very anxious to take the factory tour and it worked out great that we were going to be in the Midwest as well.
Oh well........

I'm sorry you will miss your tour. My wife and I were fortunate enough to take the factory in June of 06. I see from your signature that you are an Arctic Fox owner. I have a 2000 26X but I am planning on getting an Excel in the next 12 months. I am retiring and we want to start fulltiming as soon as possible. I hope you have another opportunity to visit Peterson Ind. The tours are excellent.

Phil,
See no, hear no, and speak no, but I'm willing to bet on your "They may be trying to keep the toyhauler secret. "

I wish it were that simple. Since we have absolutely NO interest in a toy hauler, I'd sign a statement that I wouldn't discuss or take photos of any coming down the line.
dmc: We are planning on selecting a new fulltime rig shortly and hope to begin FTing in July, 2008. Unfortunately, not sure that we will be able to get back to Kansas in the next few months.
