Our old rig had the Shurflo Extreme Series Smart Sensor 5.7 pump which was very quiet. So quiet that you have to really listen to hear it in the kitchen. I knew not to expect the Classic model to be near that quiet in our new rig. But I didn't think we'd be getting complaints from our neighbors....we couldn't run it after quiet time in the park!!! It was loud and annoying. I talked with Shurflo about that and the excessive cycling when the faucets were running. Anyhow this is what I found out. To REDUCE the cycling adjust the center screw on the sensor head clockwise until it stops and back off 1/2 turn. Shurflo doesn't like the 90* bend in the hose as it exits the pump, so I installed a straight end fitting and installed a wide hose clamp. Got the piece from Lowe's (HD didn't have it). Then I bought a cheap and small piece of 1/2 hose wrap (58 cents for 4 ft.) and installed it where the blue pex tubing starts (after the white silence looped hose) on the pressure side of the pump. All this does is keep the pex from vibrating on the utility floor. Simple fix for a annoying issue. I'll guess that it reduced the hammering and vibration in the rig about 75%. I was amazed at the improvement. I'm a happy camper now. Not a rocket science fix like workhorse does....but a valid fix!! Just thought I'd share, in case someone else had one and was tired of listening to all the hammering, etc. rockin'

I'll have to take a look at how ours is set up, often it is so quiet I can't hear it run. The only annoying thing is that because of the cycling the shower can't hold temperature very well and you have to average the too cool and too hot alternating bursts to believe you are getting a decent comfortable average temperature from the spray.

Thanks,

Dave

Tom....To get away from the excessive pump cycling, I put a small pressure tank in the water line. I mounted it near a storage door, so it was easy to drain when winterizing.
Moving the pipes around to get away from the rapping sounds and installing the pressure tank makes a world of difference in the water system.

I'm bet on your '09 model they had that "water saver" shower head. This will make it cycle big time. I got rid of it......and put on a old timey shower head like they used to have on older models. No more cycling pump and a good strong spray. It doesn't eliminate all the temperature variation you get from the mixing valve....but it sure helps. rockin'

Thanks CG. Good info.......I'm so happy now....I'll have to get over that first before adding the tank. We use the water pump so seldom. I use it more to exercise it than actually use it. rockin'

Thanks work, that means a lot comin' from you!!! That area that needs vacuumin' so bad is covered by panels.....would you vacuum where you can't see?? Me neither. Oh well, I guess I should have vacuumed for the "pic"!!

Now for the electrical thingy on the left.....sometime in the 20th Century they came up with this new fangled thing called the "surge protector"! When your rig was born, electricity was still new!!! OK enough of my smart-a** teasin'. You make it so easy for me, work. It's a TRC hard wired surge protector that has save my buns many times to surges, high and low voltages alike.

Thanks for checking in, buddy. rockin'

You are right, we dumped the canned cheap plastic "RT" faucet with one of those satisfying "Oxygen" powered faucet that gives a satisfying spray with using less than 2.5 gallons per minute. It feels more like a regular shower head, but I haven't tried it off-grid yet. I will soon though as we are still getting lows of 25* F at this point with several water breaks happening in the last week. I like to have ~1/2 tank of fresh water to take showers before work when there is sometimes no water before work. This year I am lucky, I am the nighttime security instead of the young maintenance plow mule on the morning shift. It means the difference of burning 6,000 calories per day, so instead I will have to start a morning exercise program rather than digging ditches with a hand shovel like our last workamping session. God bless the KOA's compared to Encore resorts, LOL! That is the homemade dandelion Iowa wine talking that we brought in quantity from Iowa.

No problem Janie. Since I insolated the water pipes....I thought I'd even get the thing quieter yet.....I installed a Shurflo accumalator tank http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...ator-tank/2290. This softens and reduces the cycling some.......but not worth the extra money ($50. with cost of additional water hose to hook it up) in my opinion. FWIW. rockin'

Well, we still have a couple of 90* elbows to replace, but just the adjustment of the pressure screw quieted ours down considerably. I've added the foam insulation to not only those lines that run along the floor, but any where the lines cross and could vibrate against one another. DW much happier. So happy wife, happy life! David

Thanks for the feedback Davy. You know, the 90* fitting at the pump outlet probably isn't that big a deal....Shurflo suggested using the straight out to reduce the natural flow restriction.....maybe they just don't like the restriction so close to the pump....I don't know.....to my way of the thinking.....there are bunches of 90* connections throughout the coach. And also you have restrictors (they call them water savers) on most all the faucets. Too bad I don't receive royality for all good stuff!!! If we did, ol' work would be able to afford a fresh rig!!!

P.S If the truth be known, work could probably buy one out of his petty cash jar!!!! Back home, we refer to that as "she money"....she don't need to know about "that money"!!!

We had a water break at the park so had to go self contained for showers this AM. Compared to the S.O.B. coach next to us, ours had about 1/4 the vibrating noise. There was a secondary harmonic coming from under the kitchen sink when our pump was running, will try some foam tubes when we go to town next.
