Let's start an Excel Journey into the past of Peterson Industries and Smith Center. Focus will be on pictures dipicting the history of PI products and/or the SC facilities, etc. I'll start with several pictures of a 1978 Excel Pickup Camper.

Here's an old one, we saw out in the country near Alamosa, CO in '05. I stopped and talked with the current owner and he said he thought it was a '84 model. He knew nothing about Excel but just wanted an old unit he found cheap to camp in. Not in real bad shape for it's age. Wonder if Bryan or other SME can confirm the year. Can you imagine???....no slides! Tom

Thanks 'Rockin' -- appears my attempt to generate audience participation in this topic has fizzled. Oh well, so much for our journey through the "Excel Genealogy".

Chief,
I think it is a great idea. I've enjoyed looking at the pics. If I had any, I'd be glad to share them. Will keep my eyes and camera ready.

This one sits near us at Lake Tyee in the WA Cascades. Never seen anyone in it, so no info.

Don't give up on the Excel Genealogy, I think it could be very interesting! BTW, I often come through the town where the Excel TC is located. It's sat in the back row a long time, if anyone wants to buy it as a collector item, you could probably get a good deal on it! It looks to be in good condition.
Maybe PI should put up a new building and start a Excel Hall Of Fame. It would give folks who are waiting to get their trailers repaired at the service center something to do.

'camperguy',
You're very observant if it's RV Central in Sheldon, IA. that you're referring to. I found the truck camper last year when I was searching the internet for vintage Excels. Thanks for the reply,
John

Chief,

Keep this open and I'll add to it in May. One member of the state club had a Class C. I think they only built 30 Class C's. He and his DW lives there in Smith Center.

Yes, the Excel TC in your post is at RV Central, Sheldon Iowa. I've driven past it numerous times. How old a trailer is considered to be "old"? I still see a fair number of trailers in use that are 20 years old. Especially if they were well built, like the Excel!
I would suggest trying to find pictures of Excel products that are more than 20 years old.

Agree with your "more than 20 years old". One of our members, "rubiranch", has a nice looking 1969 Excel TT that he's restoring and tows it with a 1972 Ford F-250 Camper Special. We haven't heard from 'rubiranch' for some time.

More pictures of Kenny's 1969 Excel
