We heard sirens and didn't too much of it. We didn't see this until we were taking our walk to dump the trash.

This 2011 unit had only 4000 miles on it. The couple had sold everything to go traveling for a year. They had finished lunch and were going on a short hike through the bird park here. They were in the office getting their tickets when someone came running in to tell the park workers about the fire. They went out to find their rig up in flames. This is what was left after a few minutes. Bentsen Palms RV park and most of the occupants have reached out to help them out. It's heart warming to know that we are part of the great RV community.

Lessons learned:
1. Check your insurance policy.
2. Keep copies of important papers outside of rig, i.e. copy of passports
3. Keep important stuff in fire proof safe.
4. Make sure all recalls are up to date.
5. Have a contingency plan in case of drastic emergency.

I was told that they had just turned on the refer and left for the park.

Tim, now you've got us planning for additional contingency plans... You know Judy, now we will need a trailer to haul a safe...

On another note -- We have delayed our trip to Junction City because of the latest long range weather forecast... AccuWeather.com - Weather News | Severe Arctic Outbreak Forecast for Mid-January

We will head north around the 28th.. See ya in Mission March 1.

I don't know Timo......you sure have been close to alot of fires in the parks you stay in!....hope you're not one of those pyro guys!

Seriously, thanks for sharing and reminding us of the things that seem like common sense. If the refer was on the driver's side....that's a good guess of the cause. Man, do they go up fast, seems like they are fueled by gas.
So glad no one was hurt.....but know the folks owning that thing are feeling a bit sad for sure. Like you say....not a good way to start the new year. rockin'

Tom,
Now that you mention it. I did start a lot of fires, the camp fire ring type, this past summer.

On closer examination, it looks like the refer was on the passenger side and was a point of fire start. It then spread up to the rubber roof. Others had said that when the fire hit the roof, it went up like a torch. I'm just guessing that the stove was on the other side, caught fire and fueled the rest of the fire. That's just my best guess. I'm not by any means a fire investigator and don't claim to be that knowledgeable in the area. I do know that it didn't take long and there was NOTHING left.
