After winterizing should a guy leave the water heater, low point drains, and holding tanks open or closed over the winter? I normally close my two holding tanks and put a little RV antifreeze in them. I leave everything else open. But I've read recently that it's better to leave everything open for air circulation.

What do you think is best?

When I was winterizing, I left the low point & holding tank drains valves closed. I drained the H2O heater and left it open. I never had a problem with freezing or odors. I made sure to pour at least 16 oz undiluted Antifreeze into each holding tank. Low point drain stayed closed because the line was winterized. I also made sure to winterize the laundry and outside H2O shower supply. I was liberal with the solution in all areas and never worried. The unit was stored in a open storage facility exposed to all elements and was never hurt.

Now because we FT, I just make sure the basement is heated or I just head South to warmer climate.

This is my 2 cents worth. I would never leave the valves open on my holding tanks! I did that once and ended up putting new gaskets in. Not a fun job!!!

Don't let him fool you....squirrel doesn't leave his valves open, because some of his relatives come to visit (or set up house) in his tanks!!!

Right on Mr. RockinTom!!! We furry critters got to think like a squirrel. We would never set up shop in my rig! We all fell in love with yours! We just love that oven of yours and that 35 FLR with that rear kitchen. Easy access and exit for all my relatives.

PS. Us furry critters are headed to Rockport, TX., no freezing pipes there!

After completing the winterizing, close all valves and drains. Put some RV antifreeze in the holding tanks so the drain valves are covered. As previously posted, if left open:
1. the seals might dry out
2. rodents and insects will find their way in
