I was coming on I-84 into Boise, ID a little while ago and saw this 5th wheel overturned on it's side. Sorry for the blurry photo as I was going about 80 when I snapped it....OK just kidding, not funny. I was going regular speed. The wind was pretty bad and I would guess that might have been a contributing factor. No other vehicles involved. Lot's of police directing traffic so they had things under control. Big wrecker was pulling up as I drove by. That truck looks awful small to be handling that size of trailer. See the bikes on back, and the spare under the belly of the rig.

Bet that put a "dampner" on their 4th of July plans! Sure could have been worse....
You guys be careful out there!!

Interesting that the truck and trailer became detached. I wonder what was the point of failure in the connection between them. Just curious. I doubt that you could really see that much at 80 mph, Sir Speedy.

Shortbed SRW. Supercab rather than full cab.

Tho, who knows? The tow vehicle might be lying in the ditch

It's my understanding....that the design intent is for the pin to break away from the hitch on a rollover to prevent the truck from going over too. I've not checked into the deep details, but have been told that by hitch installers, etc.

I know a guy that had Lakota that rolled over on it's side in high wind. He claims that it was a weird situation. He said he was stopped at a intersection. As he made a left turn onto the street and was going about 5 MPG the wind blew his trailer over on it's side. Thankful the pin and hitch seperated and his Chev 3500 dually stayed upright....kinda freak of nature. Maybe he hit one of those "down drafts" (I think that's a label for one of those tornadic conditions the weather man didn't predict) ol' putt-putt rockin'

Wondering how big the drop 'em off and roll 'em over truck (ER: the tow vehicle) was.

I mean there are a lot of folks out there puling big trailers with small pickups and when it starts to wag.. The pick up is not even close to big enough to stop it.

Then.. Disaster happens.

When I was delivered brand new RV's and specialty trucks, there was a standing order to park whenever the winds rose above a constant 25 MPH. The company lost a lot of rigs on I-80 out west and other parts due to wind and weather conditions.

Well, we were coming back from eating lunch at the Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood when we saw this accident. A Toyota missed a yellow flashing light and went into the main hwy and into a field. A caravan of about 7 trailers was heading home from a week’s vacation. The Dodge Dually Mega Cab and Dutchman trailer swerved to keep from T-boning the Toyota. This caused the unit to jackknife. Fortunately the kids that normally ride in the back seat of the truck were riding with friends. Otherwise, there would have been some injuries, but no one was hurt, Praise God. Here are a few pix we took. Just another reminder....we all need to be extra careful this busy summer. rockin'
