Anyone have any insight on gas struts under he queen bed? The owners manual says that they are to make it easy to raise the mattress to get to the storage area below. My impression is that they make it more difficult. I have to get down on my knees and push with both hands to raise the thing. I have checked them to see if they are adjustable in some way but nothing. They also will not hold the mattress in the up position. Is this typical or is it just my trailer? Also, has anyone come up with a way to hold the mattress in th up position other than another person or wedging a stick in it?

JLS,

This subject has come up before, and here is a link to it. Bed Gas Struts
If I were you, I'd call PI and talk with Donna to see if they now have the 100# struts Bryan mentioned in his comments. Worse case scenario, take the old strut to the local auto parts store and match up the physical dimensions and get as close to 100# test as possible. Also make sure you don't have anything on the top of the bed when lifting. A little something at the foot end of the bed really feels heavy and hinders the lift! (mechanical disadvantage) Tom

Thanks Tom. Guess I missed the prior post on this. I'll call Donna tomorrow.

Received a call back from Donna this afternoon. She said that they are still looking for a manufacturer that can supply the 100# struts to them. She will call me when they do and I will update the post.

Thanks JLS for the update.

Don't forget the auto parts stores as mentioned before. You would be surprised at the selection of those things that some stores have. You'd have to take with one with you to match the physical dimensions....then shoot for the 100# range. Caution should always be taken when dealing with gas filled struts.
