We have only had the new unit since Sept. '09 and this time we ordered it with the Hydraulic Levelers front and back. Unfortunately we haven't been able to use it much since I had an accident the week after we got it home and have been non-weight bearing for the last 4 months. Now we are good (or close) to go and the dear hubby is concerned that the legs appear to hang down very low while in the towing position. I told him I'd ask you guys/gals if any of you have had any problem with them dragging on the asphalt/concrete/curbs/rr tracks etc. while you were going back and forth across the country. If it can be done, I'm sure someone here has done it. Please advise.

We had exactly the same thought when we got our new unit last fall. Particularly compared to how high up the rear stabilizers on our SOB went when they were retracted. We actually asked about it because they seemed so low, but they told us that because of their position behind the tires, they don't have a problem. And so far, after about 6 months of traveling, I can report NO problems.

Do to the position of the stabilizers next to the rear tires, I don't think we would ever have a problem. The only situation I could see would be if you drove over a large curb with a direct drop off. It would really have to be a high one in order to get into the stabilizers then you would probably have other problems as well.

In Vermont this summer we had a couple running after us telling us we hadn't retracted our stabilizers. I told her that is the way they are built. So, I can see why people think we are going to knock them off, but being so close to the tires, it shouldn't be a problem.

We did question Bryan about them too and he said they were engineered to be at this height; something to do with height/length/angle blah blah blah... We are just hoping it computed correctly as the optical illusion it creates is questionable. Hopefuly this thread will have lots of response with all being negative on making contact with the ground.

I would think this would be covered under the 2 year warranty that PI so generously gives you...and I am sure it would show up by then if there would be a problem with the location/angle/height/thrust/blah blah blah

We have been one the road with this 2008 for a year and half and the rear hydraulic stablizers haven't even come close to dragging or hit anything.

I damaged my right rear hydraulic leveler when both right rear tires left the pavement and dropped into a deep rut/pothole while making a sharp right turn. The impact sheared off all the bolts but one so I was able to continue on until I could get it repaired. The bracket took all the force so all that was needed was to reposition it and replace the bolts. The leveler itself and the hydraulics did not require any repair.

I haven’t really worried about the rear stabilizers, I kind of figured PI engineered them to be all right in that position. I am sure there are going to be certain circumstances that one does get damaged here and there. The other day I was hooked up for three days and was lowering them to take the rock out of my coach and one of the fronts didn’t want to respond. Right now I am only using one battery and I think I am going to install another one. The solution to my problem was I plugged into shore power and as soon as I had the battery fully charged the front jack that didn’t respond worked. Curtis is saying that in the control box there is a relay installed and it takes a little more power, so he is trying to get the manufacture of the control box to eliminate the relay. I guess he gets lots of calls on the front jacks. But I was impressed the other day, when I dollied down on a complete concrete pad and had all four tires off of the ground ! I really like my hydraulic jacks and recommend the extra cost to anyone upgrading.

I also treasure my hyd jacks. Would be the last option I would give up if faced with the choice.

Only complaint - when I activate both front jacks at the same time, one of then starts about one or two seconds after the other. Thus they don't reach the ground at the same time and I must so adjust. And the trailer rocks when I retract them together.

Factory techs said, "That's the way they work." Nother guy guessed that one of the hyd lines is longer than the other. So why do the rear ones deploy together?

Others have this feature?

Bruce,

When I extend the front jacks together the street side jack come down a little sooner. However, that "leading" jack doesn't begin to lift the coach until the curbside jack reaches ground and then they lift in parallel.

As to the retract, the only time one of the front jacks retracts before the other is when I have used one of the jacks to level the coach from side to side during setup.

Rear jacks pretty much work in parallel.

Thanks for the offer but Bona is pretty tough on blenders. After she burned up two pretty decent quality blenders we agreed that we could do without. Anyway, I'm happy with our jacks and they're not on the list for our visit to SC tomorrow.
